Quick, Google I Am Number Four star Alex Pettyfer and see what comes up. The first thing you’ll feast your eyes on are some smokin’ hot pics of the model-turned-actor’s six-pack. Sure, it looks au naturel, but Alex swears it takes a lot more work than just sitting around and playing video games!
Check out Teen.com’s exclusive interview for deets on how Alex got his leading man bod, why he almost chickened out on the part, and why — even though he’s Number Four — he’s rumored to be Dianna Agron’s Number One!
Teen: Tell us about your character John, AKA Number Four.
Alex Pettyfer: He’s got this James Dean, Rebel Without a Cause thing going on where he’s trying to find his identity.
T: How do you relate that to yourself?
Alex Pettyfer: I think every teenager comes to a point in their life, around 15, 16, 17, when they say Who do I want to be? What do I want to do with my life? That’s how I related to John.

T: What was it like working with your leading lady Dianna Agron?
Alex Pettyfer: I mean, I’m a big fan of Glee, she’s amazing. I’ve never worked with her before and she’s just such a wonderful actress.
T: What about the stunts…did you do them yourself?
Alex Pettyfer: I tried to do as many stunts as possible. I did an action movie when I was younger so that was a real learning experience. For I Am Number Four, I did a back flip off a 150ft scaffolding to practice for a dive and I trained a lot in martial arts and that kind of stuff.
T: What was the hardest part about filming this movie?
Alex Pettyfer: I’m a very naturally skinny guy. I think the hardest thing for me is to have that regime of eating and working out and fitting it in with work. It’s part of the job because you don’t want to go on screen and have people think He’s no leading man! So I try and go to the gym and I absolutely hate it. I’d rather be on a couch, playing PlayStation.
T: You ran out of your original audition for the movie. Why?
Alex Pettyfer: I went in to read for the part, I looked at [the script], stood up and I said, “I’m sorry, I’m really not right for this,” and walked out… Sometimes, the nerves get the better of you. Sometimes you don’t want to let people down.
T: What made you change your mind?
Alex Pettyfer: I was very taken by [director] DJ Caruso’s previous work. Plus, there’s not many times Steven Spielberg is going to produce your movie along with Michael Bay. They’re two people who I’ve looked up to for a long time.
