Playlist Of The Week: The 10 Best Movie Songs From 2011

by on · in Music · 7 Comments

Ya know how when you watch a movie and you hear a song that you have to download right away? But you don’t know what it is and you sorta wanna pull out Shazam in the middle of the theater? Well, we’re here to help you remember your fave songs from movies this past year. We scoured ALL the soundtracks from the best movies of the year and narrowed it down to tracks from Breaking Dawn (duh), Bridesmaids, Friends With Benefits and more!

MORE: The 10 Most Underplayed Holiday Songs!

1. “It Will Rain” – Bruno Mars from The Twilight Saga: Breaking DawnPart 1
So let’s just get this one out of the way, shall we? This Bruno Mars track was basc the biggest movie song of the year. It’s sexy, romantic and completely addicting. Ya know, just like Breaking Dawn.

2. “#1Nite” – Cobra Starship from Abduction
We kinda have a huge crush on Gabe Saporta and Cobra Starship as a whole. And yes, we know that Abduction may have not been even remotely good the best movie ever, but we think this fun dance tune from the soundtrack makes up for it.

3. “Almost Paradise” – Victoria Justice & Hunter Hayes from Footloose
Of all the country ballads we’ve heard this year, this one from Footloose is def our fave. We love that Victoria Justice took a risk and did something totally different. Plus, the song fits so perfectly with the movie.

4. “Starlight” – Muse from Crazy, Stupid, Love
So OK, we kinda cheated. Technically, this Muse song isn’t on the Crazy, Stupid, Love soundtrack, but it’s the main song from the trailer, so we thought we’d do it anyway. The song is from 2007, but it’s not getting old on our iTunes playlists anytime soon.

5. “Tightrope” – Janelle Monáe [feat. Big Boi] from Friends With Benefits
We’re bummed that there’s no JT track on the Friends With Benefits soundtrack so here’s the next best thing. Janelle Monáe. She’s kinda perfect at combining classic music with current hip hop/R&B.

6. “Monster” – Paramore from Transformers: Dark of the Moon
When it comes to quality rock music, Hayley Williams and the rest of Paramore kinda have a lock on it. This song from the third Transformers film is typical ‘life sucks’ stuff, but girl has such a good voice.

7. “I’ve Just Begun (Having My Fun)” – Britney Spears from Bridesmaids
It’s insane why Britney didn’t make this song one of her singles back when it came out in 2004. We love that it’s on the Bridesmaids soundtrack, but still. Seriously, this is one hellava dance track. The beat is sick, Brit Brit sounds really good and the lyrics are sexy and fun. OK, we’re done with our lovefest. We just love it when we find new songs.

8. “Telling The World” – Taio Cruz from Rio
So if we were gonna have any guy sing us a song, it’d be this guy, this song. It’s all about how Taio Cruz has found the right girl and wants to tell the world. Plus, the offish video below features clips from Rio, our fave animated flick of the year.

9. “Not Your Birthday” – Allstar Weekend from Prom
So, did you see Prom? Well even if you didn’t, this pop rock track from Allstar Weekend is a must-listen for any time you wanna rock out (whether it’s on your bed with your BFFs or at your own Prom).

10. “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” – Emily Browning from Sucker Punch
Yes, Emily Browning‘s cover of this ’80s song is mega creeps, but it’s also kinda amazing. Plus, we don’t think there’s a better song that fits Sucker Punch, a movie that while featuring some of our fave ladies (Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung), was also completely messed up.

What did you think of our picks? Did we leave any awesome movie songs out? What was your fave soundtrack this year? Tell us below!
