We just got off the phone with these 5 dudes (we wish we could capture their accents in this interview!) and we’re still sweating a little just knowing how hot the guys on the other end of the phone are. These cuties are already huge in the UK, but they’re about to be just as major here in the US once they start their American tour with Big Time Rush (!!!) in February and release their album, “Up All Night,” in March. So if you’re not already, it’s time to get acquainted, ladies.

Teen.com: We are SO happy to have you in the US! Why do you think your American fans will love your album, “Up All Night?”
Harry: I think what the American fans will like about our album is it’s quite fun and everyone in America seems really fun. I think it’s the kind album you can put on in a party, you know?
Teen.com: Yeah! Is this tour going to be your first time in the states?
One Direction: We’ve been out to LA to record the album last time, so some of our songs were actually recorded out there. This will be our first tour in America, which is massively exciting.
Teen.com: Cool! So what’s your favorite thing about America?
One Direction: The passion for being American is pretty good. Everyone in America is so proud to be an American. The food’s good, the weather’s good. Everyone’s really polite, everyone’s always really happy. In America, whatever you need, you can get it. Places that don’t deliver in the UK deliver in America. American girls are beautiful. They’re really hot. Their accents are hot.
Teen.com: Um, no, your accents are hot! Is there anything that’s better in England?
One Direction: Uh, that’s a tough question. Footbol is better in England. I mean, soccer.
Teen.com: So you’re touring with Big Time Rush! Do you watch their show on Nickelodeon?
One Direction I like cartoons. But Zayn watches Big Time Rush…
Teen.com: What other teen shows are you guys into? Glee, maybe?
Zayn: Yeah, I used to watch Glee, I thought it was great. They performed on The X-Factor, so we got to see them live.
Teen.com: Other than BTR, what other teen acts would you love to collaborate with?
One Direction: Bruno Mars. Great songs, great stage presence, an unbelievable performer. His vocal is absolutely flawless.
Teen.com: You know he’s nominated for a bunch of Grammys, right? Who are you rooting for at the Grammys?
One Direction: Bruno Mars and Coldplay. Katy Perry is good.
Louis: I LOVE Katy Perry! I think she’s great.

It’s great that Northgate Leadership is wnihgieg in on the situation but I’d rather they focus on retaining teachers, monitoring the classroom environments and keeping sports alive (without expecting parents of scholar-athletes to provide the funding). Car washes have been in existence since I was a student and I don’t recall wearing jeans and sweatshirts when I participated in them…especially when it is 90+ degrees outside. The guys that are offended either need to better handle their latent yearnings or save their puritan beliefs for their own living room. The gals that are offended either need to jump on a stairmaster for an hour a day (and put away that jelly donut) or simply look inward for inner peace…or (light bulb) I’ve got it – look away. Note: I’ve seen plenty of skanks walking down the street fully clothed. These young ladies are smart enough to live their lives…if the bed they make gets a little goofy, they’ll still have to sleep in it. How about us parents do a good job when they are young and let them be accountable for their actions as they get older…that’s how the real world is.

I also read through the comments on Mister Writer’s site. It sounds like, as usual, there were a few participants in the car wash who were dressed or behaved in a way that crossed some kind of line and got this fundraising effort some unwelcome attention. That’s too bad, but it sounds like that’s what happened. Nicole and Really, you describe one scenario, and I don’t doubt your version of events. Mr. Writer, and other readers and friends who emailed me saw something else that, to them, crossed the line. I don’t doubt their version either. I guess it’s like that line from a U.S. Supreme Court justice about the definition of obscenity. (And if someone wants to dig up the quote, please do). You know it when you see it. And some people saw something that to them, well, crossed into the realm of inappropriate and obscene. That there has been discussion among the group and in the school about this issue shows some awareness on the part of some that, yes, things got a bit out of hand. And, as I wrote in another thread, I think this incident touches on bigger issues, beyond the behavior or dress of a few at a car wash fundraiser. It gets into our attitudes about sex and sexuality, particularly among teen girls and young women. How we view girls, whether it’s fair that we view them in certain ways. Double standards. Adults projecting their own sexual ideas onto girls who were just behaving naturally and innocently, who, in the words of one person who commented were just trying to keep cool and comfortable on a hot day.

Okay, I know you think that you have “dibs” because the English girls were the first to watch them sing at their auditions, get put together as a band, make video diaries on the stairs, and sing, ‘Torn’, for the first time together, after Louis got back from the hospital, from his sea urchin sting. Heck, I’m AMERICAN and I know as much as some English girls do. If you truly loved the boys and wanted to see them live out their dreams, why would you hold them back from American fans? Directioners are EVERYWHERE. Whether it be America, Belgium, Norway, or the UK.. you have no right to call “dibs” . You don’t see Canadian girls saying “Sorry English and American girls, but Justin Bieber is ours, dibs.” This is why the Beliebers are a family and the One Direction fans are just Directioners. Because they don’t let new fans in. If they don’t know who “Kevin the Pigeon” is, everyone pushes them away. Instead of pushing them away, why not TALK to them and show them all of the ‘amazayn’ 1D moments? You should support the boys in anything they do or don’t support them at all. UK is their home and they will always feel connected to all of the English girls, they LIVE there, just like Niall will always be connected to his Irish roots. The American girls barely ever get chances to meet them, and you’re getting uptight because they’re finally coming to America? Harry will always be “I’m Harry Styles, I’m 16 from Holmes Chapel in Chesire.” Louis will always be “The Swagmasta from Doncasta.” Whether you like it or not, they are becoming big EVERYWHERE. Everywhere you turn, you’re going to see Americans, etc. do the Inbetweeners dance and shouting lyrics everywhere. All I ask is to loosen up and watch them live their dreams, anywhere they go.
