OMG, guys. T-minus however many days until The Hunger Games hits theaters! So just what are we doing to get ready for the Games? Reading up on all of the lucky actors and actresses that are going to be portraying these amazing characters. Chances are you know a little bit about Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson, but do you know about the 11-year-old actress playing Rue? Or how the actress playing Clove got her role? Read on to find out more about the main characters and the tributes! Happy Hunger Games!
1. Jennifer Lawrence graduated from high school a full two years early so she could pursue acting. And Winter’s Bone, her Oscar-nominated flick, may have helped her prepare for The Hunger Games — Jen learned how to fight, chop wood, and skin squirrels!
2. For Josh Hutcherson’s 13th birthday, Kristen Stewart (Josh’s Zathura: A Space Adventure co-star) gave him a pet turtle!
3. Miley‘s main squeeze, Liam Hemsworth, almost played Thor, but the role ultimately went to his older brother, Chris. Hope there was no sibling rivalry there!
4. Isabelle Fuhrman originally went in for the role of Katniss, but was called back to read for Clove instead — and got it!
5. Alexander Ludwig, who’s playing Cato, attends the University of South California, and his favorite number is 7. Why? He was born May 7th, at 7 minutes to 7 and weighed 7 pounds and 7 ounces. Like Josh, Alex also got a birthday present from a co-star! On his 16th, Race to Witch Mountain co-star Dwayne Johnson gave Alex one of his personal guitars. Coolest. present. EVER.
6. Willow Shields, aka Prim, has a twin sister, Autumn, who is also an actress!
7. Amandla Stenberg, who plays cutie pie Rue’s, name means power in Zulu. During filming, someone stepped on a hornet’s nest that sent bees everywhere! Amandla got stung on the cheek, and Jennifer Lawrence had to pull her out of the swarm and to safety. We wonder if someone put that tracker jacker nest there on purpose…
8. Leven Rambin, which means life in Dutch, is the grand-daughter of former CEO and president of the Texaco oil company, J. Howard Rambin, Jr.. Oh, and PS, she’s playing tribute Glimmer in the flick.
9. Not only does Jacqueline Emerson act (she’s Foxface in the flick!), she sings, too! She has even recorded a CD to benefit the Saint Bernard Project, a non-profit organization that helps rebuild homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
10. Dayo Okeniyi, who plays Thresh, was raised in Lagos Nigeria, but moved to the United States in 2003. He received his Bachelor’s degree in visual communications design in 2009.
11. Jack Quaid, tribute Marvel, was born to Hollywood A-listers. His mom is Meg Ryan and his dad is Dennis Quaid!
On March 23, 2012… the world will be watching! How excited are you for The Hunger Games?! What are your plans for the premiere? Do you have a favorite tribute? Tell us here!
