5 Things The Hunger Games Movie Should Have Included

by: on | in Movies | 77 Comments

If it were up to me, The Hunger Games flick would have been seven hours long and included every single tidbit from the books. But, I suppose I can see how that might pose a problem for Hollywood execs, so I guess I understand that certain things will end up on the cutting room floor. Still, in my perfect film fantasy world, here are five things that I would have definitely put into The Hunger Games

(WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!)

1. Songs from the Soundtrack
I love, love, love the entire Hunger Games album, but not one song seemed to appear in the  movie! True, it’s hard to weave a Taylor Swift tune into a tracker jacker attack, but if Twilight could put vampire baseball to Muse, then surely THG could have had a little more music, no?

2. Kissing
Everyone in the theater started to giggle when Katniss and Peeta hunkered down in the “cave of kisses” as I call it, but come on, one or two smooches and that was it?!?! You’re killing me, Hutcherson.

3.  Hovercrafts
As we fanatics know, when a Tribute dies, the cannon sounds immediately and in swoops a hovercraft. But the cannon seemed inconsistent and the crafts never arrived. For whatever reason, this disappointed me. Does anyone else agree?

4. Muttations
True, it would’ve been hard to explain that the mutts were actually versions of the other Tributes, but for me, that’s what made them so terrifying. Do you think the film did a good job of explaining all the horrors of the arena?

5. Hunger!
I was really looking forward to Katniss gobbling down all the Capitol delicacies but… she never did. In fact, if I hadn’t read the trilogy, I don’t think I would have realized just how hungry the citizens of District 12 were. Were you hoping that empty tummies would play a larger part in the film?

Lionsgate

Overall though, I think J.Law made Katniss loads more likeable than she is on paper and yes, fine people, I retract my previous statement about hating Josh as the choice for Peeta. He was awesome–even without an adequate amount of smooching.

What else were you looking forward to in the film that didn’t make it in?

They left out the part when Peeta lost his leg ang Katniss had to make a Tourniquet.
And Peeta seemed strong in the book, but vulnerable in the movie. They Need waaayyy more KISSING.
    :) :) :) :)

I adore the books and I very much liked the film, I just think it needed to be MUCH grittier and show some of the more violent and/or desperate scenes. I know the whole series is meant for young readers but I thought, at times, there were very dark parts in the books and I don’t think they came across as well as they could have… Maybe why some people feel the films are a little ‘teenage’
Its a shame it had to be a 12…maybe if the cert was a 15 we would have had a better film. For example when the tributes get to the arena and its meant to be a ‘bloodbath’ at the cornocopia. We just don’t see anything like that :’(

I really wish they had shown peeta saving katniss’ life by fighting off cato (it also would have explained how he got stabbed) idk they just made peeta seem really useless and not nearly as witty as he was in the book….I was just waiting for ” you can kiss me whenever u want we r in love remember?” or that incredibly sweet monologue explaining how he’s loved her since like kindergarten lol

I agree with you ms.hutcherson, but peeta is MINE! (and wasn’t katniss supposed to clean peetas clothes in the river?)

I think the movie should have included the end scene where peeta finds out katniss was acting and she was not really in love with him! I was sad that part wasn’t there

I’ve been surfing online greater than three hours lately, yet I by no means found any attention-grabbing article like yours. It is pretty price enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the net shall be a lot more helpful than ever before.

I wished that they would of shown more of peeta charming character more. He made these one line quotes to katniss that were so cute such as: are you here to finishing me off, sweetheart and you can kiss me anytime we are in love you know. In the book peeta seemed strong and brave and I did not get that from the movie. I think josh did a good job with what they gave him.

They left out Katniss getting the bread from district 11.
They didnt show Katniss killing Cato because he was in pain.
Katniss didn’t take out te spear in the book when Rue died, but did in the movie.
When Cato attacks Peeta on the Cornucopia Peeta marks Cato’s hand with am “X” & didn’t in the movie.
    Wtf happened to Madge?
    Peeta’s Dad didn’t visit Kat.
The lake scene? Katniss didnt clean Peeta clothes & all that rubbish!
In the movie Katniss didn’t give Peeta the sleep syrup.
ALSO you don’t get to feel Haymitch & Katniss’ relationship. By this I mean in the book its clear he doesn’t sed her water because he knows she’s near the source, but in the movie you just think he’s straight up mean.
And last, but absolutely not least in the Movie it’s not made clear that Gale is Catnip’s “cousin” instead of best friend.

Gale isn’t Katniss’s cousin. He is her best friend. Hense the “team gale” and “team peeta” nonsense that is going around.

They left out Madge and I liked Madge :)
And the redhead Avox girl’s story and how Katniss remembered her.
They didn’t put Haymitch in the reaping where he is stumbling around throwing up, I thought that part was funny ;) other than that the movie was awesome, we loved it!!!

They didn’t put in the story of the redhead Avix girl and how Katniss remembered her.
And they left out Madge and I like Madge because she gave Katniss the mocking jay pin which made the face of the rebellion.
They didn’t put Haymitch in the repeaing falling around drunk and throwing up.
But other than that the movie was great. We loved it!
