Prom is quickly approaching… still need to get some style inspiration? You’ve looked through all the mags, scanned your favorite fashion sites and you still don’t have an idea of what you want to wear on the big night.
We’ve come to the rescue! Check out some classic prom outfits from some of our TV and film faves. They may help point you in the right direction or steer you away from some major fashion faux pas! FYI, sometimes the salesgirl is wrong, the dress doesn’t look better on you than it does on the hanger! Trust your gut and have fun finding your prom-spiration.

Don’t Get the Same Dress as a Friend
Dressing like your BFF was only cute when you were 5. Brenda and Kelly from Beverly Hills, 90210 were less than happy to be caught in the same dress. The nerve!
Do Be Comfortable
Proms are for dancing (just ask Ren & Ariel from Footloose) not yanking up the top of your dress. Don’t wear something that you have to constantly worry will fall down or is so tight you can’t show off your smooth dance moves.
Don’t Be Afraid of Color
Try a bold color like Bella Swan in Twilight or Naomi on 90210. We all have that color that makes us feel confident. Go for it!
Do Be Unique
Don’t worry about what everyone else is wearing. Showcase your own style. I don’t know if I’d go as far as Josie in Never Been Kissed (Yes, I know it was a theme prom), stay true to you.
Do (Or Don’t) DIY
Everything old isn’t necessarily new again. In Pretty in Pink, Andie made her own dress, and let’s just say lace doesn’t flatter everyone… well, not that much lace, anyway.
Don’t Be Afraid to Wear Sparkle
A little sparkle never hurt anyone. I think Mariah Carey once said that, right? Nova in PROM showed off her sparkle in the simplest way.
Do Go All Out
If you’ve dreamed of prom night your whole life and you want to be a princess, be a princess. Blair on Gossip Girl knows how to stand out in a crowd and you can too.
Do Have Attitude
Sometimes it’s not about what you wear but how you wear it. Have a good attitude and enjoy. Proms are fun, remember? Regina George in Mean Girls might’ve had a brace on but that didn’t stop her.
