5 Style Lessons You Can Learn From The Hunger Games

by: on | in Celebrity Style | 10 Comments

Maybe Katniss wears her Tribute garb for most of The Hunger Games, but there’s still a fair amount of sartorial wisdom you can glean from this series (even if you’re wary about looking like a Capital fashion victim). We’re not talking “where to get Prim’s dress” or “how to dress like Effie,” we’re talking actual lessons that you can apply to your life no matter what your style. And they are…

Experimenting with your look is fun, but having options is even more fun.
We wish we could get away with modifying our bodies as much as the Capital fashion fanatics, but we can’t. Technology just isn’t there yet. Keep in mind that some things are permanent. If you’re gonna experiment, take a test drive first. Wanna get a tattoo? Try temporary, then go for the permanent ink.

Sometimes, all you need is a small accessory — like, say, a mockingjay pin — to pull your look together.
The addition of a simple accessory can really make a difference in an otherwise blah look. Sure, Katniss’s mockingjay pin is the only thing that sets her apart from the other contestants look-wise, but we can apply this advice to our IRL sartorial dilemmas, amiright?

Take a fashion leap! It’s okay to trust your friend’s judgement, especially when they’re as stylish and kind as Cinna.
Your friend might tell you that the appliqued, pleated denim miniskirt you’re iffy about is a totally good idea. Then, when you go to school wearing it and realize it is waaaaay too short to be any kind of appropriate and waaaaay too ugly to be any kind of cute, you realize that maybe you shouldn’t take advice from this person. But if you have a friend who you know has your back and a good fashion sense, trust her judgement and you might be pleasantly surprised. (If not, just laugh about it later.)

When you need to make a statement, commit to making a statement.
Hey, if you’re gonna go bold, go full-force. For her debut, Katniss wears a dress that, quite literally, lights up on fire. It’s so bold, it got everyone talking in the best way possible.

In your style journey, you might take some risks, you might make a fool out of yourself. Don’t freak out.
Things could be a lot worse. You could, for instance, be playing in the Hunger Games and fighting for your life. Are you warm enough? Do you have functional clothing? Can you move around? Then trust us, you’re okay. Your clothes are okay. They’re just doing their job!

Is it bad I feel like crying? That’s just so sad I mean, I felt that way when my soohcl play ended! We had been working since February on the play, so come June, we were like a big family. We hated leaving each other the point is, I understand why they are so upset. You spend so much time together.

        You should read the book

I agree with Kelly, you should read the book first. But the movie/book is about a time in the future where the Capitol (the main control of all the districts) has one boy and one girl from each district (ages 12-18) fight to the death on live TV. However, there’s a MUCH deeper story to it than that. The story revolves around the main character Katniss Everdeen (16 year old girl, district 12). It shows what these games are like from her point of view.
