Step Right Up! 6 Circus-Themed Music Videos

by: on | in Music | 4 Comments

Dianna Agron rang in her 26th birthday with an awesome circus-themed bash and we’re jealous (and not just because Taylor Swift was on the guest list!). Unless you work on the Vegas Strip, you can’t exactly get away with sequined feather headbands or elbow-length red satin gloves IRL. Someone might call you garish if they’re fancy, or wacky if they’re blunt.

Still, if trendsetter Dianna’s any indication, you may be able to go the Barnum & Bailey route in public pretty soon. Don’t know about you, but we’re ready to overdose on cotton candy and tightropes–get some inspiration from these circus-themed songs and music videos!

“Circus” by Britney Spears
Brit Brit takes the circus theme to the highest degree imaginable with her song “Circus,” coupled with an appropriately themed music video. Yeah, it’s a pretty sexy kind of circus, but all the mainstays are there: stilts, ringleaders, lions and elephants, fire-throwing, acrobatics, and awesome costumes.

“Can’t Be Tamed” by Miley Cyrus
Miley (AKA Avis cyrus) is on display, in a cage. And this exotic creature can’t be tamed because she’s just that cray. Real circuses usually don’t have such elaborate dance sequences, but they do have that many feathers in their costumes. Take note for future costume parties!

“Hurt” by Christina Aguilera
This isn’t the song to play during a party, but it is a music video to look at for serious circus vibes. Christina flashes back from her current gig as a circus performer (in the video, at least) to an old memory intertwined with her father, as a viewer of the show. In her signature ‘40s curls and sparkly outfits, she spends mucho time emoting and looking pretty..

“Funhouse” by P!nk
This is what happens after the party ends, though hopefully you won’t be surrounded by “evil clowns” and burning couches. Fingers crossed.

“I Write Sins Not Tragedies” by Panic! At the Disco
At this circus-themed wedding (or wedding of circus clowns?), you’d stick out in the crowd if you weren’t wearing white face makeup and a giant top hat. It all breaks loose in the end, with hula hooping, fire-blowing, and tons of striped tights.

“Lady Marmalade” by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Maya, P!nk
Okay, so we know that caberet definitely isn’t the same thing as a circus, but we’d crib the circus-themed decor and looks (maybe with a few more articles of clothing). This song is perfect to blast and feel like a BAMF. Because, you know, that’s exactly what circus performers are! It takes A LOT of courage to do the wild stuff they do.

Do you like these songs and music videos? Which one’s your favorite? (Or are you just averse to clowns in general?)

We only had a brief foray into kids’ music at this household. It was The Wiggles and I’ve diusscsed my feelings about them in another post. My kids like good music. By that I mean my music and not Miley, Brittney or Biebs. It unfortunately does include One Direction. My kids like a variety of music. They listen to First Wave, The Pulse, Lithium, Deep Tracks, Alt Nation, Hip Hop Nation and Real Jazz stations on XM. We listen to anything but Country pretty much. We got off the kids’ music track when my oldest was 4/5. I simply couldn’t take it anymore.
