Battle of the Mega-Franchises: Harry Potter, Hunger Games and Breaking Dawn Win Big At 2012 MTV Movie Awards

@MTV

True, this year’s MTV Movie Awards, featured the outrageous Russell Brand as host, a few awkward speeches (whaddup, Kristen Stewart) and a whole lotta Hunger Games and Twilight references. But also? Lots of winners! It was the year of movie franchises with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Breaking Dawn Part 1 and The Hunger Games winning in most of the night’s big categories. And while many fans expected a battle royale between Twilight and THG, it was Potter who won for Best Hero and Best Cast. Emma Watson, there to debut the trailer for The Perks of Being A Wallflower, accepted the latter award on behalf of her Potter costars.

As for the Hunger Games vs. Twilight showdown, Jennifer Lawrence took home the win for Best Female Performance and Elizabeth Banks won for Best Onscreen Transformation, but two of the night’s biggest categories, Best Kiss and Best Movie, went to Kristen (and her kissing costar Rob Pattinson, who was not there and left Kristen to accept alone… and fake make out with herself) and Breaking Dawn.

Check out all the people who took home a popcorn trophy, or twelve, below and check back during the week for our red carpet best dressed list and video of our hosts experience on the red carpet.

    Harry Potter deserved ALL the awards they were up for. I didn’t mind too much when Hunger Games beat it (although I couldn’t believe it won best fight; i know H.G. had an epic fight but H.P. deserved it) but when Breaking Dawn won for best movie my mouth dropped for like 10 minutes. I’m a Twilight fan but wouldn’t call myself a total twihard but I thought Breaking Dawn was extremely terrible – if you saw the trailer than you saw the movie. Breaking Dawn didn’t deserve it.
