It’s official; there is no genre that Anna Kendrick can’t do. First, she made us laugh as Jessica Stanley in the Twilight series and Stacey Pilgram in Scott Pilgram vs. The World, then she showed us her serious side in flicks like Up in The Air and 50/50, then most recently, she charmed us in What to Expect When You’re Expecting alongside Chace Crawford. Now, Ms. Kendrick is showing off her singing voice in the upcoming musical comedy, Pitch Perfect.
In the movie, Anna plays Beca, an outsider who has trouble fitting into any particular clique at her new college, the fictional Barden University, until the peppy Chloe, played by Brittany Snow, hears her singing in the shower and convinces her to join the school’s all-girl a capella competitive singing group. Sounds eerily similar to how Finn convinced Sam to join New Directions on Glee…
If you crossed Glee with The House Bunny, you’d get Pitch Perfect, so obviously we are in. Watch the trailer to be sure you are too:
The movie is based off of the non-fiction novel of the same name by GQ magazine senior editor Mickey Rapkin. He followed collegiate a capella groups from the University of Oregon, University of Virginia and Tufts during their competition season.
Pitch Perfect isn’t Anna’s first musical; she got her start in musical theater. Her first ever acting role was in the Broadway musical High Society when she was 12 years old, a role which earned her a Tony nomination, making her the third-youngest person to ever be nominated for a Tony. Her first movie was Camp, an indie flick about a performing arts summer camp in New York.
Pitch Perfect comes out October 2012! What do you think of the trailer? What’s your favorite movie musical?
