Disney’s Snow White isn’t the only cartoon going from animation to real-life movie. The beloved tale of Sleeping Beauty is receiving the royal treatment, too. Only this time, instead of following the story’s heroine — like Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman — this one depicts the point of view of (arguably) one of the most terrifying 2D villains: Maleficent, the evil sorceress, played by none other than Angelina Jolie.
According to People, “In this updated version, the focus switches to the events that hardened Maleficent’s heart, leading her to curse the baby Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), played by Elle Fanning.”
Above, you will notice the first picture from the upcoming (though, not to be released anytime soon) flick, where Angelina’s already-well-structured cheekbones protrude even more, her lips are bloodstained red, her horns are in the shadows, and her eyes glow in a slightly less demonic way than in our childhood dreams.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Angelina says that this film and her depiction of the female antagonist is “not anti-princess, but it’s the first time they’re looking at this epic woman.” She continues, “I hope in the end you see a woman who is capable of being many things, and just because she protects herself and is aggressive, it doesn’t mean she can’t have other [warmer] qualities. You have to figure out the puzzle of what she is.”
As previously mentioned, Elle Fanning will star opposite Jolie’s character, along with Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley and more.
Since filming just began in London on June 13, Maleficent is tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in 3D on March 14, 2014. Do you think Angelina will do a good job as the villain? Or how about Elle as the role of Aurora? And what do you think of Angelina’s first picture?

Her jawline looks really painful……. Anyways, she looks amazing
I really want to see this one
I always like movies that kind of portray a prequel to what led to these events.
I think that Angelina will be terrific. She’s a gorgeous and talented lady (:
