Between gearing up for her Part of Me 3D movie, releasing her eighth single, “Wide Awake” and covering The Hollywood Reporter all in the span of a few weeks, Katy Perry is undeniably busy. But, like any pop star, being simply ‘busy’ isn’t enough– Katy’s adding yet another project — launching her own record label.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Katy says she’s just in the beginning stages of developing the currently unnamed label.
“I’m preparing for it now, and when this record label does come to fruition, I’m going to try and avoid the things that take away any fighting chance for an artist to have financial success. As people are coming to me with opportunities, I’m thinking, ‘How would I want to be treated?’”
Katy knows first-hand the struggles that many aspiring artists face. After being signed by Columbia Records in 2004 and then later dropped in 2006, Katy worked hard to be signed by Capital Music Group, the label where she established herself as the Katy Perry we now know and love. She is now the first woman to have five #1 songs from a single album on the Billboard charts. If we were an aspiring artist, you better believe that we’d fight pretty hard to be signed to Katy’s record label!
What do you think about Katy starting her own record label? And what should she name it? Are you planning on seeing Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D when it hits theatres July 5?
