It’s down to (possibly) two in the casting of tribute Johanna Mason in the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire. In case you’re not familiar, Johanna’s described as “having wide-set brown eyes” with “spiky brown hair” (at least in Catching Fire) and is “very muscular and tan.” She is one of Katniss and Peeta’s strongest allies in the 75th Hunger Games — along with Finnick, whom Teen.com readers already pseudo-cast themselves — therefore an integral character in the soon-to-be film version. And, while we came up with our own potential choices for the role, Mia Wasikowska is reportedly a front-runner.
Although she might not be a strong favorite to some critics (a la Huffington Post, which says “she doesn’t necessarily seem right for the part on first glance. Johanna has a strong-willed sexuality in the books, something that the Alice in Wonderland star has yet to exhibit onscreen”), one person that may tip the scales in her favor is THG star Josh Hutcherson, who played Mia’s younger brother in The Kids Are All Right.
The other supposed front-runner for the part is Zoe Aggeliki, a Swedish, Greek, French model/actress. According to an exclusive on The Playlist, “Aggeliki may not be a familiar face at the moment, but she’ll be seen next summer in R.I.P.D. and also landed a role in Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters as Silena Beauregard.”
Catching Fire hits theaters on November 22, 2013. Did you mark it down on your calendar already? Who would you cast for the role of Johanna Mason? How about Finnick?
