The role of Finnick Odair (which has still yet to be cast) in the sequel to The Hunger Games was all anyone could talk about last month. But now that Catching Fire‘s Johanna Mason is up for grabs as well, every outlet is set out to break the news of her casting. The problem with that is many may devise their own rumors just to spark interest.

As recently as yesterday, Mia Wasikowska‘s name was in the mix to play the female heroine. However, more current updates confirm that the Alice in Wonderland star will not be a part of the movie franchise. In fact, according to Entertainment Weekly, “[D]espite an earlier report, Mia Wasikowska has not been approached for the role of Johanna Mason, nor would be available to shoot the film.”
Not all is lost though. EW also divulges that Jena Malone is actually in the running to play Katniss and Peeta’s ally in the series. And, while Mia wasn’t exactly seen as a favorable actress to play the character, Jena seems to be more well-received by the media. Says Perez Hilton, “[S]he’s definitely more of an indie darling, but she kicked some serious ass in Sucker Punch, and we think she’s got just the right amount of spunk to give Katniss a run for her money, don’t U?”
Model Zoe Aggeliki was also mentioned as part of the list of Johanna potentials, but so far, no reps have confirmed or denied the news.

i think jena malone would be ok for johanna but not katniss. jenifer lawrence is (and always will be) katniss to me, it cannot be changed
