Catching Fire: Philip Seymour Hoffman Snags Major Role, Plus Who’s Offered the Role of Johanna

Lionsgate

Finally, a confirmation. The casting for Catching Fire‘s been up in the air for months; especially the roles of Johanna Mason and Finnick Odair. But at least all fans of The Hunger Games can rest a little easier tonight knowing at least one of the prime spots has officially been filled.

Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s signed on to play Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee. While the idea of Philip starring in Lionsgate’s franchise was first discussed back in early June, a formal arrangement was made last week. In fact, according to E!, ”The deal was made right before the Fourth of July holiday.”

Meanwhile, the search for Johanna Mason may be over as well. The casting directors have offered the role to front-runner Jena Malone. Jena’s said to be in early negotiations for the part; all that’s needed is basically her signature on the dotted line.

And, though it’s yet to be validated, the role of District 2 victor Brutus could be off the market soon, too. As mentioned on Crushable.com, Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer‘s recent co-star/wrestler Kevin Nash could have the part in the THG sequel. When speaking of the character with USA Today, he jokes, “I just pray it’s recurring, that he doesn’t get killed.” Brutus is described as a ‘very skilled’ male in his 40s, though it’s unknown how he won his Games the first time he was a Career Tribute. He’s known for his ‘brutality’ and ‘strength’ — just as his name suggests.

Do you think Philip Seymour Hoffman was a good pick for Head Gamemaker? What about Jena Malone for the role of Johanna? And, in your head, who would be the best actor to play Brutus?

Jena Malone looks way to muck like Isabelle Fuhrman (the girl who played Clove).

It´s just gonna get confusing and creepy. besides, I always pictured Johanna Mason as a petit-faced blond with a face full of hate and evil features. U know, like a bi*ch!
