The Various Stages of Loving “Call Me Maybe”

by: on | in Random Stuff | 14 Comments

It was a time known as 2011. The catchiest song around was “Friday,” you didn’t automatically answer “Call me?” with “Maybe!” and Carly Rae Jepsen was but a former contestant on Canadian Idol. Ah, life was simple. But with one tweet, all that changed. Justin Bieber introduced millions to “Call Me Maybe,” (and this video) and the world was never the same again. If you want to take a walk down memory lane, we’ve pinpointed the roller coaster of emotions involved with loving this musical number that you can never un-hear. Have you gone through all these stages? Join the club and read on.

1. “This song is so annoying.”
Psh, stupidest song ever.

3. “Let me repeat: I do not love this song.
So I play “Call Me Maybe” fifty times a day?
It doesn’t mean I love it or anything! Um, it’s just how the song works.

4. “Fine. Maybe I love it. But only ironically.
I really just listen to hipster music.

5. “FINE. Not ironically.

WENN

6. “Like, I am addicted.”
That moment when you curl up in a ball in the corner of your room because “Call Me Maybe” wasn’t played on the radio and it is ONLY a good day if “Call Me Maybe” is played on the radio.

WENN

7. “This song is overplayed.”
Seriously, how many times can you listen to one song over and over again?

8. “JK everyone, I’m not tired of this song yet.”
Turns out, if a song’s catchy enough, you can listen to it over and over again A LOT.

WENN

9. “Say what — Carly Rae Jepsen has an new song?!?!?! Do I have to divide my love?”
Well, that might not be too bad…

WENN

How are you feeling about “Call Me Maybe” now? How does it compare to Carly’s new song (with Owl City), “Good Time”?

I GODAMN HATE CALL ME MAYBE!!!! at our school we have a local radio station for the school which is played during lunch and break… and we hear call me maybe at least twice EVERY SINGLE DAY DX plus a load of other crappy songs… then the occasional bit of rock music such as Monster by the automatics… they take requests and i need to give them every single song i like at some time so that call me maybe wont come on for the next week or so :3 but really, REALLY what the hell is all the hype with that song?

I typically only listen to rock music (Evanescence,The Pretty Reckless,Muse,Skillet,
Nirvana, etc.) and I kept hearing “Call Me Maybe” because people at school sang it and the parodies. And it was on the radio. All. The. Freaking. Time. On. Every. Single. Station. I absolutely hated the song. Typically,I hate almost all mainstream music. And I always said I hated it. Then I went home and downloaded it. Keep humming the tune. So catchy yet so annoying when it’s stuck in your head 24/7. o_O I’m still in the stages of denial.

Ooooh, I love Skillet too! When I first heard “Call Me Maybe”, I hated it. Then I started to like it for some unknown reason. Thats when every radio station started to play it all the time. Now I hate it even more. I like “Good Time” better…

Hahahaha it’s sad how people think they know about music, and in the end, they’re just posers. By the way, I fucking hate this awful song.
