Harry Potter One Year Later: Where Are They Now?

by: on | in Celebrities | 14 Comments

It’s been a year since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II hit theaters. :sniff sniff: Maybe you’re engrossed in J.K. Rowling’s weaning device — otherwise known as Pottermore — but that won’t help with the gnawing guilt you may have if you’ve been out of touch with the film stars you’ve grown up alongside. Well, wipe your tears. The Harry Potter stars have been busy since the final film premiered. If you haven’t been keeping up, now’s the time to reacquaint yourself…

Daniel Radcliffe
After finishing his run as Harry-freakin’-Potter, DanRad took his second spin on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and starred in the dark thriller film, The Woman in Black. Now, he’s taking a spin as beat poet Allen Ginsburg in Kill Your Darlings. Need evidence that he’s no longer The Boy Who Lived? Just look at his hair! It’s like he’s becoming The Boy Who Looked Like Darren Criss.

WENN

Rupert Grint
The on-screen Ron Weasley played a fighter pilot in Norwegian film Into the White earlier this year, but 2013 is going to be THE big year for Rupert — he has at least six films slated for release. Watch out for his appearance in CBGB, based on the legendary punk rock club of the same name. He plays someone named Cheetah Chrome (WTF?) — alongside Professor Snape Alan Rickman!

WENN

Emma Watson
When she’s not busy being a smartie at Brown (or studying “abroad” at Oxford), fashion darling Emma Watson — the face of lines like Burberry and Lancome — is promoting her upcoming film incarnation of Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Definitely check it out come September, if only so you can hear Hermione Granger use an American accent.

Summit

Tom Felton
After spending years playing Draco Malfoy, Tom Felton does evil oh-so-good. His role as the snooty villain in Rise of the Planet of the Apes was spot-on, and next he’s appearing with Ashley Greene and Sebastian Stan in the upcoming horror flick The Apparition, out later this summer.

20th Century Fox

Bonnie Wright
For the most part, Bonnie has been taking things slowly ever since she retired from her role as Ginny Weasley. She has a select few films on the pipeline, including Shakespeare’s Daughter, but maybe she’ll amp things up now that she’s no longer prepping for a wedding? Last year, Bonnie was engaged to Jamie Campbell Bower (who you might remember as a young Gellert Grindelwald in the final film), but they broke it off earlier this year. Bummer!

WENN

Evanna Lynch
Evanna Lynch just continues to be awesome, as per usual. While she’s had a few acting roles since the Potter films wrapped up, the real Luna Lovegood has been keeping busy making friends with YouTubers/Wizard Wrockers, dancing around at Harry Potter fan convention Leaky Con, and tweeting up a storm.

WENN

Matthew Lewis
It seems like the suddenly-HOT Neville Longbottom has been solely focusing on his UK acting career, with a regular role on the BBC One series The Syndicate and a part in the British movie Wasteland, with traitor Wormtail Timothy Spall. Personally, we find this a bit selfish on Matthew’s part. America loves him too!

Which star is YOUR fave? Do you miss Harry Potter as much as we do? How are you celebrating the last film’s one year anniversary?

Harry Potter doesn’t end, as long as there are fans who are loyal…and I’ll *always* be loyal!

My Mom said that after Deathly Hallows they will have nothing to do with their lives. NO! They are amazing and though they will *always* be those characters in my mind, they still have the rest of their lives ahead of them.

I wonder if in 10 years, someone will try to do a remake of the HP series. I almost cried reading this (lame…I know…) because I really miss seeing all of them in HP and I wish there were more books because this is like the bagillionth time I’ve reread/rewatched the series. And I don’t even recognize Daniel lolwut…

Most of these actors have been working really hard on post-Potter projects. I have to say Matthew and Bonnie are really surprising me. Matt’s been focusing a lot on UK shows and Bonnie even did her own short film with her university. They’ll never have the fame the trio has, but they’re working hard.

Bonnie has been attending film school for the past three years. Her senior film project was shown at Cannes Film Festival. That’s why she’s was only has two post-Potter projects filmed, not because she was busy planning for a non-existent wedding. She had to fit acting jobs around her schooling and her work for Harry Potter. I suspect now that she has her degree we’ll see her in more projects.

Evanna has done some modeling for a irish designer and some magazines besides making a audiobook and acting in Jessie Cave’s sketches. Also she has a special guest role in Sky One’s series Sinbad, which it could be regular if the series gets a second season.

And she just got a huge role in a film with Gary Oldman, Malcolm McDowell and Dominic Monaghan. Though Evanna said that she was giving a year to try to get some roles and then going to college.
