The wait is finally over – reportedly, at least. After months and months of speculation (and our very own casting game for the role), Lionsgate has finally found their Finnick Odair for the film adaption of Catching Fire. Though the studio hasn’t confirmed it yet, it appears that the coveted role of District 4’s Finnick has gone to Sam Claflin, best known for his recent role as Prince William Charmant in Snow White and the Huntsman. Names such as Garrett Hedlund, Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Lucas Till had all been thrown into the mix for the fan-favorite character, but it seems British-born Claflin has come out on top. Well, maybe.
Sam’s character Finnick, a strong, confident, and popular competitor, won the 65th Hunger Games and proves to be great help to (SPOILER ALERT) Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in the arena during the Quarter quell, the 75th Hunger Games.
Finnick isn’t the only Catching Fire tribute to have been cast; Lionsgate just announced that 55-year-old Amanda Plummer will play District 3 tribute Wiress in next year’s movie. Amanda is an Emmy and Tony Award-winning actress who is best known for her roles in the movies The Fisher King and Pulp Fiction and for her work in many Broadway plays. She’s even lent her voice to two episodes of Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb.
Amanda’s character Wiress is eccentric and strange – the other tributes nickname her Nuts – but she, along with her partner Beetee (who still hasn’t been cast), team up with Katniss, Finnick and their allies.
This news comes after the announcement that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee and that Jena Malone, who we recognize from Sucker Punch, will most likely play Katniss and Peeta’s rough and tough ally Johanna Mason.
Catching Fire doesn’t hit theaters until November 22, 2013 (ugh!) almost a year and a half away, but until then, fans can relive their favorite Hunger Games moments, plus three hours of never-before-seen footage, when it comes out on DVD on August 18.

I think what I liked most about him was the friendship he srehad with Locke. If he hadn’t died then I may not have liked his character as much. Sawyer and Locke are other favorites of mine. I liked Jack at the beginning but really disliked him in the end.
I have ALWAYS pictured grant gustin as the perfect finnick, so i say lets start our OWN rebellion so then he will be in my “Hunger Games” family!
I say he’s not right for the role, we need someone who can be mature but still funny

You can’t judge that from past acting jobs. I mean it’s acting. He definitely looks the part!

i didnt exactly picture him as Finnick but lets give him a try. please i think he’ll be a good Finnick.

I read the books when they first came out… alex pettyfer has always kind of how i pictured finnick. but then again i pictured him kind of for peeta too and like every other blond book guy that i read about.. but i think even his personality on screen fits finnick personality perfectly! hes blond, buff, and beautiful, and seems to have the cocky thing naturally XD but can play a deeper role when he needs to. hes perfect!
I don’t really like him as Finnick… I would picture someone with golden skin or something like that… He might be a good actor and all but I don’t think he has the looks to be Finnick (although he is not bad looking at all).
Don’t like Sam as finnick or whatever? No one cares, and you can say that I should respect every opinion but really, this is so annoying. WILL YOU JUST WAIT TO THE MOVIE BEFORE YOU JUDGE SAM? Most of you don’t even know him. He’s a beautiful talented man, you should watch other stuff besides swath and potc. I believe he can do this role in the best way.
He has NOT accepted YET as far as we know (if it’s even true), so chill people.
But if it is true, and he takes it, I’m totally okay with it. Honestly it was surprising ‘cuz he wasn’t even on my radar for that role, but I think he’s a good actor and he’s beautiful.
And need I remind all you haters of when Josh and Liam and Jennifer were cast last year, everyone threw a fit and immediately judged them, and Suzanne Collins kept telling us how awesome they were in auditions and to just trust her and Gary, and you all didn’t listen? And then the movie came out and suddenly you were singing a different tune?
Seriously, just calm the crap down and TRUST them! Look how perfectly amazing the cast for the first movie was. It’s basically the same team of people casting now. So just be patient until the movie comes out to judge.
And even if this turns out not to be true, the same thing goes for whoever DOES get cast. Give Sam, or whoever, a chance. I think he would be great.

He doesn’t look at all like I pictured Finnick. The only thing I’ve seen Sam act in is SWATH, and that’s a far too different role from Finnick to know if he will be any good. I’m pretty disappointed.
I’m really sad, i don’t see him as Finnick, i love Sam and i think he’s a hottie, but never crossed my mind to see him as Finnick, even for a single moment. Among other options, I preferred Garrett, but my dream was always to see Ryan Gosling in this role, I even imagine the scenes with him playing the role alongside Jennifer. I’m sad. First Johanna was a deception and now this.

Zac isn’t the kind of actor to play a guy like Finnick…He plays more romantic style movies…
& Bieber! NOOO! He can’t even act in the one small part he had on a crime tv show, much less in a huuuge movie like The Hunger Games!
I just feel like he’s completely wrong for the role. I just can’t see it at all. I really thought it could be Armie Hammer or one of the other options. I hope it isn’t him, unless he’s absolutely perfect for it and Suzanne Collins approves completely.

You realize they can dye his hair & give him contacts….& ummmm you don’t know him so how could you hate him!
