One Direction Sells Over 12 Million Albums, Singles, DVDs in Under A Year

In under a year you can finish a grade in school or grow you hair long — pretty simple, right? Well, if you’re the guys of One Direction, in under a year you can sell 8 million singles, 3 million albums and 1 million DVDs for a total of 12 million in sales. No big deal or anything, though. Totally normal. Not only did Louis, Niall, Harry, Liam and Zayn reach this milestone in less than a year, but the guys actually just celebrated their two year anniversary of being a band, meaning they made this accomplishment in about half the time they’ve known each other. Up-in-coming pop bands — take notes.

1D’s album Up All Night has hit number one in 16 different countries, including the USA, where they became the first UK band to ever debut at number one on the US Billboard chart. As of today, the album is also 2012′s top-selling debut album in the US.

Clearly, the guys are all super excited about their success over the past year, and thankful for receiving special discs to celebrate. Liam explains:

“We are obviously ecstatic and incredibly humbled by our award today. We have an incredible team of people around us who have helped us achieve this and above all we would like to thank our fans. We owe all our success to them.”

Although 12 million is a huge number, we’re pretty sure it won’t be sticking around for too long — the success keeps coming! 1D will perform at the 2012 VMAs (where they’re also nominated), their 2013 summer tour sold out in minutes and they’re currently working on their second album! We’re not sure when these guys find time to sleep.

Still don’t get the hype about these guys. Way back when I tolerated boy bands (2008),the only boy band I liked was the Jonas Brothers–and that’s because I thought Joe was cute with his long hair. #ahmemories (For the record,I don’t like them anymore. I was way younger.) But really? 12 million albums? They’ll fade away–they always do. If One Direction had been popular in 2008,I would’ve stuck with the Jonas Brothers. I’ll give this band three years before their popularity crashes. This “music”,if you will,is too pop-sugary for me. And annoying. #whatmakesmecynical

Lola I love that comment and its so true I don’t and don’t want to get the hype and I hope they do die out quick. Self sales and family members don’t count as sold out One direction. #justsayin’
