Bruno Gunn Cast as Brutus in ‘The Hunger Games’ Sequel, ‘Catching Fire’

My, my, my, what a difference a day makes. Just yesterday, while news of Meta Golding’s casting in Catching Fire was released, there were still a few slots to fill, including primary characters Finnick Odair, Beetee and Brutus. At least, until today because Brutus has just been scooped by actor Bruno Gunn.

You might recognize Bruno from his stint in last year’s comedy Bad Teacher, alongside Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz (granted his part was pretty minute). But whether or not you know who he is now, you’ll sure as heck know his name come November 22, 2013 — AKA The Hunger Games sequel’s release date — because his role packs a serious punch very similar to Alexander Ludwig‘s Cato. Like Enobaria, Brutus hails from District 2. His weapon of choice: a spear, though how he won the Games his first time out is unclear. He’s described as a male in his early 40s, and is said to be “named seemingly perfectly as [Brutus] mirrors his brutality and strength.”

He’s one of the last main characters to be selected for the next addition to the franchise, since — as previously mentioned — Enobaria was cast yesterday. Before her, it was 80-year-old tribute Mags, now set to be played by Lynn Cohen, along with a list of others including Jena Malone (Johanna), Amanda Plummer (Wiress) and Philip Seymour Hoffman (Plutarch Heavensbee).

Filming of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins later this year with new director Francis Lawrence (no relation to Jennifer). All that’s left are those final few roles.
