The latest epic, monstrous, ultimate celebrity battle (besides our Celeb Couple battle, obviously – have you voted yet?) is heating up. In one corner, we have Rita Ora, the spunky Brit singer who loves to party (and bulls**t, as her song “How We Do” promises). In the other corner is Karmin, the pop-rap duo made up of engaged couple Amy Heidemann and Nick Noonan. They’ve been duking it out for a few months now, and it’s almost time to declare a winner.
But… what are they fighting for? Rita and Karmin are battling for the coveted honor of appearing on the flip-cover of Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘Women Who Rock’ issue. The contest has been completely fan-voted, and Karminites and Rita fans have propelled their artists to the final round. Before Karmin and Rita made it to the finals, there were six contestants, all female artists or female-fronted bands, total: Baltimore rapper Rye Rye, Kentucky indie band Sleeper Agent, North Carolina-based folk rock band Delta Rae and California electropop singer Dev. Through elimination rounds on Rolling Stone’s website, which started on June 22, contestants were eliminated until just the finalists remained.
Once it was down to just them, Karmin and Rita performed in a battle of the bands-style concert at the Rolling Stone Rock Room in Chicago last week, and once a winner is determined, she, or in Karmin’s case she and he, will perform at a private Rolling Stone concert. Voting officially ends on Sept. 10, over a month away, so there is still plenty of time to cast your vote for either Rita or Karmin.
