You knew it would boil down to this at some point… After a summer filled with news on The X Factor and American Idol — judges quitting, potential (and confirmed!) celebrity replacements, new hosts, etc. — it was about time we put all the recent changes to a vote. Who has the better judges? Hosts? Talent? Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which reality singing competition will have a better upcoming season. But before you make your choice, here’s the latest info on each:
The judging panel for The X Factor is 100% confirmed. (See them all together below.) Along with Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, superstars Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have joined the TXF ranks. Meanwhile, AI has only confirmed one new judge so far: Mariah Carey. But so far, the list of possibilities includes everyone from Nicki Minaj to Nick Jonas, so stay tuned!
As for hosts, the shows are flipped. American Idol, of course, 100% confirmed Mr. Ryan Seacrest once again, but The X Factor seems to still be TBD since Steve Jones’ exit. There’s been talk of Glee‘s Kevin McHale taking the position, as well as reports on Khloe Kardashian being a finalist. Who knows, it might even be both of them (or neither, but whatev) in the end!
Now, let’s talk talent. Here are some names you might recognize: Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry… A long list of stars that were finalists over the course of the past 11 seasons of American Idol. Though The X Factor (U.S.) showed off the vocal stylings of Melanie Amaro and Rachel Crow, it definitely can’t compare with the number of recognized talents; they only had one season after all. But you could also ‘factor’ (hehe) in the UK version of the show, which introduced One Direction to the world. Squeal!
So, which show DYT will be better this coming season? Watch performances from both sides below — one from Kelly, the other from 1D! — then cast your votes and tell us why in the comments!

I honestly think The X Factor is better. While I still love American Idol for giving us CARRIE FREAKING UNDERWOOD:)))) the show is not the same anymore. American Idol is a family show, and it doesn’t seem like one with Nicki Minaj on it. If FOX gives them better judges, maybe it’ll be better. Keith is the only judge I like really….Randy has run his course on the show the same as Simon and Paula. Now, on to the X Factor-it shows a LOT of promise. I liked all the judges this season except L.A. Good thing he’s leaving LOL. Britney was actually a pretty good judge, and I’m sad she’s not returning. Simon—I love him:)) Talent-wise, I’d have to say AI. Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Phillip Phillips, Scotty McCreery…but the x factor has some good talent too I guess. Melanie Amaro was good, but I don’t hear anything from her anymore. Rachel Crow is doing good in the biz. Now Carly Rose-THAT was a talented singer!!!! …..so basically, it would have to be AI for talent-wise and the x factor for better judges.
emm,, I think American Idol is a “fair” singing competition, because it is a solo singer competition, so I think it’s “fair”, but The X-Factor has its own special thing, allow duo, group, so not only solo singer who can join the singing competition, and that is the special thing from The X-Factor that can make people more interesting about the show.
I want to be on the X factor someday I am a really good singer.
X FACTOR ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!
I never really liked american idol and i think ( from what i watched) x factor is more fun to watch
BOTH!! THEY ARE BOTH GREAT SHOWS!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t watch American Idol or The X Factor so I do not have a personal favorite or know too much about the show from experience, but I will say I voted for American Idol. Why? The talent on the show has to do with the judges–the judges have the most power,at least when it comes to auditions. Mariah Carey can sing, unlike Ms. Britney (otherwise know as . . . Brit Brit) Spears, whose “singing” is pure auto-tune. I highly doubt her judging skills, but Simon Cowell balances it out. I don’t know about L.A. Reid and Demi is fairly new to the music industry, and she was originally trained by Disney. Nowadays, the songs Disney produces are pure auto-tuned and yes,Demi is a pretty good singer, albeit not perfect or extradordinary singer, but she doesn’t have Mariah Carey-esque experience. American Idol has not confirmed the other judges, although I can’t stand Britney and if I had to watch one,I’d watch American Idol. It comes down to the talent on the show, because that’s what the show IS about. Good talent is spotted from people with experience and training.
I’ve always been a Britney fan, so I’m leaning towards X-Factor (although I don’t know why they had to throw Demi Lovato, I don’t think she’s been in the biz long enough to be a judge). I wish Paula Abdul were still on the show, heck, let’s get Paula and Randy over on the X-Factor with Simon Cowell, and it’ll be like good ol’ times.
In all honesty though, I think neither of them should be on. American Idol has long since run it’s course, and X-Factor is riding it’s tattered tailcoats.
its not your choice they have made there choices and i am glad that Demi is in the panel.
