From Harry Potter to The Hunger Games and Twilight, books-turned-movies have dominated award shows and movie theatres since, well, we can’t remember. Although Divergent didn’t win the Teen Choice Award for Choice Book, fans of the sci-fi novel have something else that might be a litttttle bit more epic to be excited about — Lionsgate’s Summit Entertainment announced today that the film version of the book will be released in North America on March 21, 2014.
Divergent is a young adult novel that was written by 24-year-old author Veronica Roth and released in May 2011. The book tells the story of Beatrice “Tris” Prior, a teenage girl who lives in a dystopian world who must now choose a faction — the honest, the intelligent, the fearless, the peaceful or the selfless — to live in. Hmm, is it just us, or do those factions sound a lot like THG‘s districts? Apparently, it’s not just us, ’cause there have been many comparisons between the two sci-fi meets young adult romance novels in the past.
To help further emphasize the comparison, Lionsgate is the production company that released The Hunger Games and Summit Entertainment worked on the Twilight films. Lionsgate recently bought Summit to made one big take-over-that-world production company, so we’re pretty sure that Divergent has everything in its favor to become the next big young adult phemon. Although there’s no word yet on who is being considered to be cast in the movie, with prior stars like Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, we highly doubt that fans will be disappointed by who they end up seeing on the big screen.
