Nina Dobrev goes to some dark places as Elena (and Katherine) in The Vampire Diaries, but it’s her role as Candace in The Perks of Being A Wallflower where fans will get to see the 23-year-old actress’ most gritty performance to date … almost.
We interviewed Nina in Toronto where the movie premiered and asked about her emotional abortion scene with costar Logan Lerman that does not appear in the film.
“We actually shot that, yeah. We shot the clinic scenes and a few scenes post clinic, but unfortunately the movie was rated R and it got a little too heavy so we had to take them out so the viewers who the movie is intended for could watch it. I think they’re gonna be on the DVD.” The Vampire Diaries star didn’t tell us which side of the hot political topic she’s on, but did tell us the scenes were tough to shoot. “It was definitely a little crazy, but you know, it’s what a lot of people go through,” she said. “And it was a big part of the book.”
In the book, Nina’s character is in an abusive relationship with her boyfriend and discovers she’s pregnant. When she decides to terminate the pregnancy, her younger brother Charlie, the book’s main character, supports her through the process.
Nina went on to tell us she thinks having a baby is one of the only permanent things that can happen to a person in their life and that if she ever got a tattoo, her [future] baby’s hand and footprints are the only thing she could imagine having tattooed on her body. “Even if your kids grow up to be mass murders, they’ll still always be your kids.”
