After the One Direction boys launched their new music video for “Live While We’re Young,” it was pretty obvious that the song was going to be a hit. Not only is the track super-catchy, but the video is the definition of amazing. Like, who doesn’t want to see the 1D guys soaking wet and having a good time, all while making funny faces? While we obviously can’t get enough of the video, it seems like eveyone else is loving it too, because the numbers are in and “Live While We’re Young” broke the VEVO record for most number of video views in 24 hours — a record previously held by Justin Bieber‘s “Boyfriend.”
“LWWY” brought in a whopping 8.24 million views in its first 24 hours, and now that it’s been a week since the video was released, the band can proudly know that it’s been viewed over 27 million times! #impressive. Despite the fact that the guys are no strangers to being successful in other ways too, Steve Barnett, chairman of Columbia records, knows just how essential VEVO was in their rise to fame.
“VEVO had more impact than anything else [for One Direction]. I’ve never seen anything work as quickly.”
Even though JB no longer holds the title of most viewed VEVO video in 24 hours, we’re pretty sure there are no hard feelings between the guys. Justin’s “Boyfriend” pulled in about 8 million views during the first day of its release, which is something to be pretty proud of if you ask us. Hmm, wonder if Justin even gave them some record-breaking advice after hanging out after the VMAs? Probably not, but hey, something’s clearly working!
