Attention all Disney Channel lovers — Selena Gomez and the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place are officially reuniting for a one-hour television special event. Not only will Selena star in the episode, but she will also take on the role of executive producer.
According to a press release, the episode will feature the Russo family traveling to Tuscany, Italy to visit relatives. But, in typical Alex fashion, she tries to prove that she can be serious, too, and mistakenly casts a spell that makes a Good Alex and an Evil Alex. Somehow, Evil Alex teams up with another wizard who has a plan to take over the world (totally normal) and it is up to Good Alex to stop them. And, in true epic-television special form, the only way to settle the battle between the two girls is to have a feisty duel on top of the Tower of Pisa. The youge.
WOWP is an Emmy Award winning series, and the show’s series finale in January 2012 was “the number 1 cable television telecast among all kids’ programming!” Clearly fans were gunning for a reunion to happen, and Gary Marsh, President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, explained:
“With the phenomenal ratings of the Wizards finale earlier this year, it became clear that fans of the series were not ready to say goodbye to Selena or the rest of the Wizards cast. As such, we’re thrilled that the cast has agreed to reunite to bring their fans one last grand adventure!”
The special event will begin filming next month and should premiere in early 2013.
