Since the release of 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, a fourth installment to the sci-fi franchise has been a topic of discussion. However, despite the launch to even greater stardom from the series, star Shia LaBeouf will not be returning as adorkable hero Sam Witwicky. Instead, much-older (by 15 years) movie hunk Mark Wahlberg has accepted the lead role in the next addition toe the film phenomenon.

Director Michael Bay says, “Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain and Gain and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his caliber is the perfect guy to re-invigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers’ legacy.”

‘Re-invigorate.’ Meaning, liven it up; not to be confused with re-boot. As documented on Producer Don Murphy‘s personal site, he says, “What happens next? Certainly not a reboot. We haven’t lost the Transformers. They didn’t grow up or become expensive like Toby Maguire. I don’t know what happens next. I’m pretty sure there will be a second trilogy. I am pretty sure it will kick ass. And I am pretty sure some of you will hate it because it wasn’t all bots.”

This news comes a few short weeks after denying that Mark was even a possibility. Michael announces via his website, “The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project.”

The untitled Transformers installion is scheduled for debut on June 27, 2014. Until then, voice your opinions about the casting decision, and — just because it’s there — tell us what you think about the new logo (inset).

In my opinion, I’m glad Mark will be the lead role, Shia is a good actor but you can’t top Mark you cant top him. Sometimes is good to grow in with new actors, I mean it will be a really good change for the new t4
