It’s a boy for The Hunger Games‘ Elizabeth Banks; she is now a mother twice over after son Magnus was recently born. After welcoming her first child with her husband of nine years, producer Max Handelman, via gestational surrogate in March 2011, the couple opted to have another earlier this year via the same process.
Elizabeth says on her website, “As 2012 winds down and Thanksgiving approaches, I have much for which to be thankful — personal, professional, and Presidential. However, nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second baby boy, Magnus Mitchell Handelman.”
She continues, “Magnus joins older brother Felix, thus commencing a decade or more of close hand-to-hand combat. Like Felix, Magnus was born via gestational surrogate. This experience has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime. I am also so very thankful to our family and friends for their support throughout this process, as well as the Center for Surrogate Parenting for helping make all this possible. I now turn my attention to managing two boys under two. For which I am thankful. And all their poop. For which I am less thankful. Wish me luck.”
The 38-year-old actress is currently filming the sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, which we recently learned from Jennifer Lawrence would be moving production from Atlanta to Hawaii. Though Elizabeth doesn’t mention where little Magnus will be during shooting, we’re sure Max, who was one of the producers for Surrogates (ironic name) and Pitch Perfect (which Elizabeth starred in), will take on the parental reins.
Make sure to wish Elizabeth a healthy congratulations in the comments, and join the THG sequel conversation on our Catching Fire message board!
