We hope you Boy Meets World fans are sitting down — because this is some huge news! Though there was some speculation earlier this month, it’s been confirmed that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel aka Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence, will reprise their roles in Disney Channel’s upcoming Girl Meets World pilot. The show will be a sequel of sorts to the popular ABC show, that ran from 1993 to 2000, that focuses on their 13-year-old daughter Riley.
Though the role of their daughter has yet to be cast, there is a nationwide search looking for, who we assume will be, the next big Disney star. Not many other details are known, but they are also casting for a character named Maya, who is Riley’s Shawn Hunter (aka, BFF). The role of Maya is described as:
“Maya is Riley’s best friend and does not share Riley’s optimism. She is far darker and less trusting of the world. She is an only child and has never known her father, which immediately makes her relationship with both Riley and Cory Matthews very important to her although she’d never admit it. She is not a good student in school, but is a wonderful student of life and absolutely magnetic in attracting or intimidating the people in her sphere as she cares to. Dark and edgy, but just as fiercely loyal to Riley as Riley is to her. Which makes us want to believe that maybe there’s a good heart under the acerbic wit. Or maybe not.”
The pilot is still in development, so there is no set air date or premiere time, but Ben tweeted about it, saying:
I’m going to be a father! Well, on TV at least. The “Boy Meets World” sequel is officially happening!
