While final details of the Divergent cast have yet to be announced, we do know that the movie will be filmed in Chicago — the same place it’s set in the book. Fans of the Veronica Roth novel about a dystopian society that is split into factions should get excited over this news, because it means they’re one step closer to filming, which means they’re one step closer to the big screen. The Illinois Film Office has confirmed that Divergent will start shooting in April.

If you aren’t familiar with the YA novel, it centers on a 16-year-old girl named Tris — who will be played by Secret Life of the American Teenager star Shailene Woodley — who lives in futuristic, dystopian Chicago where society is split into different factions based on human traits. All 16-year-olds take place in a ceremony where they can choose to stay in their faction, or transition to a different one, which is largely frowned upon. Tris decides to abandon her family for a new faction, but struggles with the initiation process. While fighting to stay alive, she falls for one of her instructors, named Four.

Casting is still up in the air for Four, but there are reports casting directors have narrowed it down to I Am Number Four‘s Alex Pettyfer, X-Men: First Class star Lucas Till, and War Horse actor Jeremy Irvine. The film will be directed by Neil Burger who worked with Bradley Cooper in the 2011 thriller Limitless, while the screenplay is being written by Evan Daugherty, who penned 2012′s Snow White and the Huntsman. So far, the film’s release date is set at March 21, 2014.

Are you glad that the cast will film the movie in Chicago, just like the book? Sound off in the comments.

Kirsten, thanks for stippong by. I deleted my Google Plus account a few months ago. I wasn’t using it. I have heard some people say they’ve been using the video chat group functionality of Google+, the hangouts that you mentioned, but the complete package doesn’t work as an entire social network that you need to monitor. I think Google will eventually split up the parts and make them separate products/services. P.S. What do I know?
