You’ve seen the pictures and behind-the-scenes details from our visit to the set of Safe Haven (right?!), but if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice that we mentioned interviews with the cast, too! And that’s what we’re about to bring you now. During our trip to Southport, North Carolina, we got the scoop on the upcoming Nicholas Sparks book-turned-movie from the author himself, the lovely Julianne Hough and Cobie Smulders. See what they say about working with Josh Duhamel (shirtless, we might add), the relationship between Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth (remember, they come from Nicholas’ The Last Song), go-to romantic films and more.
Teen: We know there’s gotta be an epic love scene in the movie. Details!
Julianne Hough: It was my first, on-camera love scene, so that was [like], “Holy moly, wish me luck” Details, well… It was definitely a first-time experience; a little uncomfortable, but you gotta do what you gotta do… Josh makes it easy.
Teen: Hotties like Zac Efron and Channing Tatum have been cast in other Nicholas Sparks films. How does Josh measure up?
Julianne: They’re amazing; and they’re all probably perfect for that movie that they did, but I think Josh is the perfect Alex for this movie. I couldn’t imagine anybody else playing Alex. He is kind, generous, loving, sweet…
Teen: Can we just talk about Josh’s shirtless scene for a sec?
Julianne: He’s on the beach, frolicking in the sand and the waves without a shirt on. I think most women will be happy about that.
Teen: How does Josh compare to some of your other movie love interests, like Diego Boneta?
Julianne: Everyone’s super-talented in their own right, but Josh is definitely more of a “man” compared to my co-stars in the past just because of, obviously, maturity and age, but also kind of the characters we’re playing; we’re a little bit more mature in this movie.
Teen: Right, his character even has kids in the film…
Julianne: There’s some really fun scenes with the kids. Like, on the beach… I want kids, so every time I’m around them, I’m just like, “I hope my kids end up looking and acting like these two” ‘cause they’re the cutest and sweetest and funniest kids I’ve ever met.
Teen: How did you bond with the kids, Noah [Lomax] and Mimi [Kirkland]?
Julianne: We like the beach; we go to the beach all the time and play and make sand castles and it’s fun. Josh, like, works out with little Noah ‘cause he’s going into football season, so that’s really cute.
Teen: Since the film comes out on Valentine’s Day, what’s your go-to romantic film?
Julianne: I mean, I love Pretty Woman. I love all the Nicholas Sparks movies, so A Walk to Remember, The Notebook, who doesn’t like The Notebook?
