Six years off the air hasn’t kept Veronica Mars fans from dreaming of a future for the Kristen Bell-led show. And it’s a good thing too because, despite only existing for three seasons (on UPN, then The CW), it’s just been greenlit for a big-screen movie — all because of the fandom.

Creator Rob Thomas and Kristen announced a Kickstarter campaign, with a goal of raising $2 million in 30 days to begin funding the project. Fans reached that amount in less than 11 hours. WHA-?!

Kristen tells Entertainment Weekly, “I knew Veronica Mars fans were cool, but I had no idea they could rally with such power. They are unstoppable — just like Veronica. I will have a permanent blush on my face, feeling so lucky to be associated with this entire thing.”

The creator echoes her sentiments, “My mind is blown. I’ve been fantasizing about this and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment.’ And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.”

The star recently came off her stint as the voice of Gossip Girl — she even appeared in the finale! — and is currently expecting a baby with fiance Dax Shepard, whom she worked with on When in Rome and Hit and Run. So don’t expect to see the film anytime in the near future. Were you a fan of Veronica Mars? Are you excited for its return? Tell us all your VM-related thoughts in the comments!

Thats so sweet of the fans. They should do the same thing for the Secret Circle, but as a show again, not a movie
