Although many speculated that the song was about another one of her famous exes, John Mayer, who (allegedly) already has “Dear John” attached to his name, Taylor confesses that the Red song is about her most recent former flame. In an interview with The Sunday Times, where she was questioned about her 2013 BRIT Awards performance of the chart-topper, she admits, “Well, it’s not hard to access that emotion when the person the song is directed at is standing by the side of the stage watching.” One Direction attended the ceremony to accept the award for Global Success, so it’s no secret that she’s referring to Harry Styles. (Unless there’s another ex we just don’t know about.)
She continues, “You’re balancing the analytical side of your brain, which is telling you where to go and how to go there, with the other side of your brain, which is saying ‘Feel everything you’re singing, and show it on your face. Feel everything exactly as you felt it when you wrote the song’.”
Back in spring 2012, the two famous singers were rumored to have dated. However, Taylor was supposedly heartbroken after learning of Harry’s romance with another female in April. Thus began the writing of “IKYWT,” we’re guessing. The two picked their relationship back up again briefly at the end of last year, but called it quits again shortly after their very public New Year’s Eve kiss.

TOO BAD THAT PROVES NOTHING! Unless she says ‘ this song is about Harry’ then it doesn’t prove anything. IT WAS WRITTEN BEFORE SHE DATED HIM. I really don’t think she’s psychic, is she? It’s about John Mayer and he was at the Brit awards where she sang this song!!
