It’s official — Shailene Woodley is the hardest working woman in showbiz. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that The Secret Life of the American Teenager actress has been offered the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of the popular book, The Fault in Our Stars.
Josh Boone, the film’s director, told EW, “During our exhaustive search to find Hazel Grace Lancaster, I saw some stunning auditions by today’s finest young actresses. Over 250 girls read for the part, but it wasn’t until Shailene stepped in front of the camera that I truly saw Hazel for the first time. It was like lightning striking. I can’t wait for the rest of the world to see what I have.” Another actress who was in the running for the part included Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld.
In case you haven’t heard of it, The Fault in Our Stars was written by John Green and centers on a 16-year-old cancer patient who falls for a boy in her support group as they both deal with their illness. Production is set to begin some time this summer. The author also chimed in on Shailene’s casting and said, “I am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars. It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie–and very exciting.”
This is just one of many projects Shailene has going on at the moment. Not only did she star in the hit indie film The Spectacular Now that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but she’s currently filming The Amazing Spider-Man sequel in NYC where she’ll star as Mary Jane Watson. Oh, and let’s not forget about Divergent, that other little film she’s doing. Filming for Divergent begins in Chicago next month.

Wow look at all of you deciding you hate someone right off the bat, I’m disgusted, honestly. Half of you don’t even know who she is and have never seen her act. Yeah, maybe I’m wrong, she could be absoulutely horrible. But at least, I’M giving her a chance.

NOOO!!!!!! honestly i have a profound dislike towards her. Its like twilight all over again. They (directors) find some of the worst actresses and cast them in some “could be great movies”. Then girls like Kristen Stewart and Shailene come in and ruin everything.

LIAR she specifically said she didn’t want to be involved in any big franchises and here she is three of the biggest movies of the year!!!!! I’m already so tired of her and none of the movies have even come out yet……two of my favorite books of all time with two protagonists that are wonderful yet extremely different in their own unique and amazing ways and they’re being played by the SAME ACTRESS IN BOTH MOVIES?!?!?!?! I love veronica and john and I’m sure the movies will be great and all but you’ve got to know where to draw the line! Even if she does amazing in both movies I’d rather see one amazing movie and one slightly less than amazing for the sake of two different actresses playing my absolute favorite protagonists almost in the history of forever. Bottom line, I think having the same leading actress just takes away from the A. excitement of both and B. Uniqueness and diversity of both, which the two dearly need and deserve to have. Seriously, this feels like Barney or something with the same lead actress every movie….

Shes so selfish and yea i watched one of her interviews and she said she doesnt want to star in huge films blah blah blah like shes imitating what Jennifer Lawrence said upon taking up hige franchises and studio films. You dont want big movies shailene? Then you shouldn’t have auditioned for The Hunger Games! And in TFiOS and in Divergent AND un TASM sequel. Though you have to be that good to land in those roles i still think youre just doing it all for popularity and not for passion. And theres something about you that doesnt quite fit you seems fake and too jumpy and i just dont like you and i have a bad feeling about you shailene dont screw everything up
