It’s an exciting day — shooting for the big screen adaption of Divergent is officially underway! After months of anticipation — and waiting for those casting announcements! — Lionsgate confirmed in a press release that principal photography for the highly anticipated film began Monday April 8 in Chicago.
The film boasts quite the talented cast including Shailene Woodley as the film’s heroine, Tris, newcomer Theo James as her love interest Four, and Academy Award winner Kate Winslet as Jeanine Matthews. Other stars including Maggie Q, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller, Zoë Kravitz, and Ansel Elgort are part of the cast as well.
If you aren’t familiar with the YA novel, it centers on a 16-year-old girl named Tris who lives in futuristic, dystopian Chicago where society is split into different factions based on human traits. All 16-year-olds take place in a ceremony where they can choose to stay in their faction, or transition to a different one, which is largely frowned upon. Tris decides to abandon her family for a new faction, but struggles with the initiation process. While fighting to stay alive, she falls for one of her instructors, named Four.
Divergent is set to hit theaters on March 21, 2014. That’s not too far! Are you excited for Divergent to hit the big screen? Sound off in the comments!
