Even though filming for Divergent has been underway since Monday, it was just announced that Ashley Judd will play the role of Tris’ mom! That’s right, Veronica Roth, the author of the YA novel, posted about the casting news on her blog, saying, “Ashley Judd has been cast as Tris’s mother, Natalie Prior! What is there to say, really, but: !!!”
Ashley joins the star-studded cast including Shailene Woodley, who will play her on screen daughter, Aaron Eckhardt, who will play her on screen husband, and Ansel Elgort, who will play her on screen son.
Other stars who will star in the film adaptation of the popular novel include Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, Theo James, and Ray Stevenson — to name a few.
In case you aren’t up to speed, Divergent it centers on a 16-year-old girl named Tris — who will be played by Shailene — who lives in futuristic, dystopian Chicago where society is split into different factions based on human traits. All 16-year-olds take place in a ceremony where they can choose to stay in their faction, or transition to a different one, which is largely frowned upon. Tris decides to abandon her family for a new faction, but struggles with the initiation process. While fighting to stay alive, she falls for one of her instructors, named Four, who will be played by Theo.
