While some may celebrate the crossing over from teenager to twenty-something with a big bash with all their friends, Nathan Sykes has another plan in mind: an operation. It’s just been announced that the British boy from The Wanted will have to undergo throat surgery this Thursday, April 18 — his 20th birthday.

On the band’s official Facebook page, the announcement reads as follows: “Our lil Nath has to go in for an operation on his throat, on his birthday to make him better. So please join us in wishing our brother and our friend well. Get well soon Nath, we love ya!”

His reps further proclaim, “We can confirm that The Wanted’s Nathan Sykes will under go specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus form The Wanted. The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible. The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world.”

Reportedly, the singer will have to rest his voice for about a month following the procedure. But in better news, if you want to see Nathan in full spirits, look forward to TW’s reality show, The Wanted Life, premiering on E! on June 2.
