Alas, The Selection television series will not see the light of day (again!). One year after announcing the potential show, The CW ordered a pilot episode of the YA book for the second time around (sans its original star, Aimee Teegarden) only to re-break the hearts of Selection fans.

Author Kiera Cass announces, “Ok, just got the official call from the studio, so I can say it: No, The CW will not be picking up The Selection.”

She continues, “Please join me in thanking the cast & crew for all their time & work, & in wishing them luck on their next projects. Thank you!”

According to Deadline, the second pilot “which was shot in Budapest, was an improvement over last year’s effort. But in the end I hear the finished product, while beautifully shot, was not compelling enough. I hear CW brass felt that there was no room for two kings-and-castles series on the schedule, and Reign came in stronger.”

This news comes the same week we learned that another young adult dystopian favorite, Delirium, was also rejected by its would-be parent network, FOX.

On a much brighter note, the sequel to The Selection, The Elite, recently hit book shelves, and it’s receiving high praise from readers, garnering 4 1/2 stars on sites like Goodreads. If you’re a fan of the series, have you gotten around to the second installment yet? Are you surprised/upset that The Selection will not become a TV show? Share your thoughts in the comments!
