Twihards were devastated to learn that Twilight author Stephenie Meyer is “so over” her mega-watt franchise. Our teen columnist (and resident Twihard) even went to far as to say, “I don’t think Meyer could have picked a worse time to break the hearts of millions” what with the fifth anniversary of the first film’s debut around the corner.

But to clarify the statement — which in Variety read as, “I am so over it. For me, it’s not a happy place to be” — Stephenie took to her personal blog to address the issue, saying she’s “both surprised and dismayed. I am horrified that my words could be construed in any way to mean that I am ‘over’ the lovely people who embraced Twilight, made it such a huge hit, and changed my life. The time I’ve spent with my fans has been one of the most precious gifts of this whole experience and I will certainly never forget them or think of them with anything but immense gratitude.”

She continues, “I try my hardest to be thick-skinned, but I’m not much better at that than I am at brevity. So when I speak of Twilight becoming a negative place for me, it is entirely that near-omnipresent Twilight antipathy that I am speaking of. And I’m not complaining or saying it’s unfair — I totally understand and even empathize with its existence. I’m just saying that Twilight isn’t the wholly positive place for me that it once was.”

To conclude her piece, she asks fans to “never think I don’t appreciate the people who read, watch, and love Twilight. I am grateful for your existence every single day.”
