Since the tragedy that rocked Glee last month, the public’s been left to wonder the fate of Cory Monteith‘s beloved character, Finn Hudson. Although it’s been reported that on- and off-screen love Lea Michele wanted the show’s plot to “reflect the truth” of Cory’s passing, it seems that Glee‘s creator may have different plans…

In a Deadline exclusive, Ryan Murphy reveals, “There were a lot of things that we had to decide — how are we going to deal with his death? At one point, we were going to have his character die after an accidental drug overdose — that was something we had considered. But we have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that.”

He continues, “What we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, ‘This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.’ That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way.”

Glee, Season 5 will premiere on September 26, with the Cory/Finn tribute on the third episode before a few weeks worth of hiatus. Feel free to express your emotions on the topic in the comments below, or on our Glee message board.

I’ve cried for days .. Months . I never got a chance to meet him. Or say goodbye. In my dreams he’s singing, playing drums, he looks so happy. I’ve never looked up to or loved anyone like him and never will. Cory was very much like Finn he was the coolest kid ever, the one we all looked up to. He will forever be remembered in our hearts, music and souls. I just wish I could meet the glee cast , tell them how much they inspired me and most importantly tell them were all going to get by. We should remember him not by the Tragic event but by the smiles, love , and passion he shared for us and we shared for him. We now know he’s not with us physically but will be spiritually. But he’s in a better place now , for is there a greater place where time doesn’t pass , love is all around , and surrounded by kind souls who know how you feel? Cory I … We every one on earth will love , miss and cherish the time you were with us . And next time you appear in Leas dreams tell her from behalf of the world that she’s the most bravest, beautiful , and soul touching person there ever is tell her we all love , admire , and cherish her.

Corey Monteith you bug cuddly teddy bear , we miss you so much and will forever have you in our hearts . <3 have a peaceful , fun , full of adventures time where your at . Eventually we will all see you again.

And lea keep holding on , be confident and brave. Time will pass and eventually you'll be with him once more. There's a saying Lea , " this too shall pass" . Give my love to the cast and we'll stand by you and Cory just like you stand by him. We love u <3 Stay strong .

That is just sad, you know what they should do, make a last episode and then cancel Glee, there can’t be Glee without Cory! It’s just sad what people do for fame these days. They shouldn’t play around with Cory’s death, if he is dead he’s dead, you can’t put this in a episode, it’s just horrible towards Cory’s death, be fair people.!

This is ridiculous. It’s completely disrespectful to Cory to not acknowledge his death in the way it occurred. Why can Glee never handle any controversial topic tastefully??

that’s the point they can’t handle it tastefully so they are going to have Finn die some other way. I’ve heard they are going to have the cast say something about it in PSA’s after or during the episode. But I am glad they are doing it this way for FINN because FINN has never had a drug problem. And if by some freak occurance someone went into watching that episode without knowing Cory died and of a drug overdose it would just not make sense. And too the characters they would be caught off guard like that and the actors would have to say “I didn’t know he had a drug problem” which would be painful for the cast. I mean them having to relive it it so close to truth would be painful enough but to act like they didn’t know he had a problem would be a kick in the gut. So I like this idea let Finn die a normal death without tainting his character like glee would do if they tried to make it that he died the same way as Cory because they have proven in the past that they absolutely cannot handle a controversial topic tastefully because let’s face it they aren’t Degrassi they should stop trying to be because they just can’t handle those storylines properly unless they brought in the writers of Degrassi. I think all that they could do tastefully are those PSAs from the actors
