The next Batman has been announced, but it’s not Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin like some outlets had speculated. He should still, however, be very familiar to you — it’s Ben Affleck!

Warner Bros. confirmed that the Oscar-winner is tapped to replace Christian Bale as The Dark Knight in the Man of Steel sequel. According to the press release (via Entertainment Weekly), Affleck’s Batman will be “an entirely new incarnation of the character.” Director Zack Snyder adds, “Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry [Cavill]‘s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retains the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne.”

The second installment of Man of Steel is slated to hit theaters on July 17, 2015, with filming scheduled for some time in 2014. Do you support the casting decision? Who would you have chosen to portray The Caped Crusader? Tell us all your thoughts in the comments!
