Taylor Swift is ready to flex her acting muscle once again! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "22" singer has been cast in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Lois Lowry's much-celebrated novel, The Giver. In case you're not familiar with the book, it was published back in 1993, and is required reading in many schools. It centers on a boy named Jonas (who will be played by Brandon Thwaites) who is selected to be the "Receiver of Memory" in a "Utopian" society where everything seems perfect. Jonas will receive all the memories of life before their society became peaceful from The Giver (Jeff Bridges) and discovers many dark secrets that are being hidden.
Meryl will play the Chief Elder who is the antagonist, while other stars include True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, and Katie Holmes who will play Jonas' mother. Production on the film begins on October 7 in South Africa, with an expected August 15, 2014 release date.
