Taylor Swift is ready to flex her acting muscle once again! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "22" singer has been cast in the upcoming big screen adaptation of Lois Lowry's much-celebrated novel, The Giver. No word yet on exactly who she'll be playing, but she joins a star-studded cast that includes Oscar winners Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep, among others.

In case you're not familiar with the book, it was published back in 1993, and is required reading in many schools. It centers on a boy named Jonas (who will be played by Brandon Thwaites) who is selected to be the "Receiver of Memory" in a "Utopian" society where everything seems perfect. Jonas will receive all the memories of life before their society became peaceful from The Giver (Jeff Bridges) and discovers many dark secrets that are being hidden.

Meryl will play the Chief Elder who is the antagonist, while other stars include True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, and Katie Holmes who will play Jonas' mother. Production on the film begins on October 7 in South Africa, with an expected August 15, 2014 release date.

  • payton

this makes me want to die

  • Mick

I think that this will make an awkward movie. The book was an odd kind of beautiful that I believe would be lost in the movie.

  • Matthew

I was so excited for the movie until this happened! Grr, another great classic novel ruined!

    • Ange

Just because Taylor is playing in it it’s gonna be ruined?? like you said, you were excited for the movie and I bet you would be fine if anyone else will starred in it.

      • Matthew

Yeah it is gonna be ruined by her! I wanted to see some new actors, ones i never saw before, excellent people that deserve and lived for acting every day of their life since birth! Taylor is a singer, and should just stick to that.

  • Sammy

I read this book so I’m excited to see the movie!

  • emma

i have many problems with this. one. this is one of my favorite books, but sorry, it’s not exactly one you should turn into a movie. let it live its amazing glory as a book. two. taylor swift? meryl streep? no! ew. three. the guy who’s playing jonas is 24. IN THE BOOK, JONAS IS 12. no. just no.

    • Maddie

I extremely agree with you. As usual good books are destroyed by stupid movie directors.
