In an interview with New York magazine, the 25-year-old writer hints at what could possibly happen in the third and final book in the Divergent trilogy, which drops later this month on October 22. But before teasing the end of the franchise, she opens up about the original inspiration behind her works, “I was in Psych learning about exposure therapy. I wondered what would happen if there was a group of people who tried to create fearlessness using the technique.”
As for if she would date her main character’s love interest, Tobias “Four” Eaton, if he existed in real life, her answer’s a shocking NO: “Too many secrets; not enough jokes” is her explanation. But… we love him!
And in regards to that teaser we talked about, the interviewer begs the question many fans are dying to know: Will Tris and Four have sex? Said interviewer says of the banter, “The barrage starts again: Are YA characters allowed to have sex? (Yes.) Have Tris and Four had sex off the page? (No.) Is this an abstinence series? (No. Roth’s Christianity has nothing to do with it; the characters just aren’t ready.) So there’s a chance they could have sex sometime soon? It’s not out of the question? Roth breaks into a grin. This is the only time she’ll yell at me, but it’s loud, and she’s clearly not nervous anymore. ‘Maybe you have to wait!’”
