At Weber Middle School on Long Island, New York, officials are worried that students are getting hurt during recess. So much so, that they’re prohibiting soccer, football, or anything that might hurt someone on school grounds, which is leaving students fuming.
According to CBS News, one student explains, “I think we need the soccer balls, the footballs and everything, so we can have some fun.”
Oh, and the ban extends even further: “Hard soccer balls have been banned, along with baseballs and lacrosse balls, rough games of tag, or cartwheels unless supervised by a coach.”
Port Washington Schools Superintendent Kathleen Maloney says this of the policy change, “Some of these injuries can unintentionally become very serious, so we want to make sure our children have fun, but are also protected.”
So, in summation, cartwheels, tag and anything involving balls is no longer available for these middle school kids during recess. Well, what do you think of that, readers? Spill in the comments!
