If you thought spring break was long over, think again! While we’ve tucked away Spring Breakers, the film starring Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and James Franco, in a tiny place in the back of our minds since its release, it appears that the studio behind it, A24, wants it to come to the forefront again — at next year’s Oscar ceremony.
Just like record companies can submit their recording artists for the Grammy nominations, studios can submit their acts for the Academy Awards, and Spring Breakers‘ has done just that. Roaming the Internet is a snapshot of the form with the following information: Best Director, Harmony Korine; Best Actress, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson; Best Supporting Actor, James Franco; Best Supporting Actress, Selena Gomez and Rachel Korine.
This doesn’t mean that any will snag a nod, but it’s the first step toward that goal. And it looks like there’s even a digital campaign for James to be acknowledged. According to Variety, it falls under the tagline “Consider This Sh*t.” Considering that, in recent years, Robert Downey, Jr. and Melissa McCarthy scored noms for their comical characters, it’s not out of the realm of possibility in James’ case. As for everyone else, well, what do you think? Do the ladies deserve the recognition? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
