It’s not exactly a shocker when Taylor Swift talks about dating and relationships. Heck, she’s practically dated all of young Hollywood. (The latest is supposedly hottie Douglas Booth. Sigh.) But, after a recent interview with Hello! magazine, we’re noticing a pattern with the 23-year-old singer — girl always makes excuses for living in singledom.

First off, no one needs a reason to not have a boyfriend; some are perfectly happy not being in a relationship. But, if T.Swift’s songs are any indication, she basically needs a significant other at least for a short while if only for her song lyrics. So, we scrounged up some of her most hilarious and/or embarrassing excuses for her lack of a love life.

NOTE: This is meant to be in good fun, and not to be taken seriously. Well, at least not entirely.

Guys Are Intimidated by Her 'Fame'

To Hello!: "I suppose it might [be intimidating]. It's not like I would look at a guy and say, 'Hey, are you intimidated by me?' I think that would be highly uncool on my part! I tend not to be the one to start conversations with guys, anyway. I'm a little more old-fashioned than that."

She's a Sagittarius, Therefore Needs Her Space

To Vibe: "I'm a Sagittarius, which means, you know, I'm blindly optimistic, I love to travel, I'm always up for adventure but also always want something new. Sagittarians are really independent, and we like our space. We're drawn to love but battle for that need for independence."

The Inside of Her Brain's a Disney Movie

To Rolling Stone: "I love the ending of a movie where two people end up together. Preferably if there's rain and an airport or running or a confession of love. It's a whole Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland structure here. It's what the inside of my brain looks like, essentially."

Traffic Lights Need to Be a Certain Color

To Wonderland: "Relationships are like traffic lights. And I just have this theory that I can only exist in a relationship if it's a green light."

She Suffers From Relationship Phobia

To Allure: "I'm typically single a lot. I have a phobia about being in the wrong relationship, so as soon as I establish it's not the right one I don't want to waste their time."

Dresses Are a Must Because Pants Are a Dealbreaker

To Harper's BAZAAR: "It needs to be equal. If I feel too much like I'm wearing the pants, I start to feel uncomfortable and then we break up. It's wonderful to hand over the reins to your boyfriend when you control so much of these big, high-pressure decisions, you know? That is a huge defining factor in who you choose to be with."

Men Need to Appreciate it When She Bashes Them in Song

To Vanity Fair: "For a female to write about her feelings, and then be portrayed as some clingy, insane, desperate girlfriend in need of making you marry her and have kids with her, I think that's taking something that potentially should be celebrated — a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way — that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist."

Her Goal is to Be Happy, Which is Sheer Madness

To Esquire: "This is breaking news, but there are a few happy songs on [my Red] album. I do explore the emotion every once in a while. I'd like to think you don't stop being creative once you get happy. My ultimate goal is to end up being happy. Most of the time."

She Needs the Guy to Chase Her

To ELLE: "I never chase boys. They don't like it!"

Life in a Marble Tub Doesn't Appeal to Her

To InStyle UK: "I don't wanna end up being awful and intolerable. Alone. Laying in a marble bathtub by myself, like sad, with a glass of wine just complaining that my life ended up alone because I pushed everyone away because I thought I was too good to hang out with anybody. The typical Hollywood sad cliché of the poor lonely starlet with no one because she put up all these walls and didn't trust anyone."

You say this is good fun, but it’s really not. Taylor is made fun of for her love life all the time and she definitely doesn’t deserve it. She’s 23 years old and what 23 year old doesn’t date? Would you rather her going out to clubs every night and then shaming her for that? She’s real and she has emotions and I guess that’s what one would rather be made of for rather than drinking oneself to death. She shows the world what most girls really think; we all want to end up with a happily ever after. These aren’t even excuses for not having a boyfriend. They’re just quotes; they’re her thoughts on love, guys, and relationships. They’re actually quite brilliant if you really read them. I usually enjoy your site and your articles, but I definitely don’t enjoy this one. This whole thing of Taylor always being made of for her relationships has gotten really, really old.

oh jezz, you guys have nothing against her right now so that’s why you can´t stop talking about her relationships!? LEAVE HER ALOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEE AND FOCUS ON MILEY, SHE’S THE ONE WHO’S SEEKING FOR ATTENTION. BYE.

I agree Karerencia! At least Taylor Swift is honest and open about her relationships and this is something coming from a person who isn’t a huge fan. She has been with many guys but so what? She’s doing it the right away and hasn’t cheated, lied or hurt anyone. Cut her some slack
