It was a star-studded night at the 2014 People’s Choice Awards — just look at all the winners! While we’re happy to say that our faves from both The Vampire Diaries and Glee attended the event AND scored big wins, there’s one category that’s caused a bit of a rift between the two fandoms on the Interwebs: On-Screen Chemistry.

Real-life former loves Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev took home the prize for their characters’ sometimes-steamy/sometimes-heartbreaking TVD scenes, causing controversy and debate among the Klaine shippers. Many are coming out of the woodworks to claims that Delena won not because of the chemistry, but because the public just didn’t want to see Darren Criss and Chris Colfer‘s gay characters take home the win:

What do you think of the hot-button topic? Do you believe Klaine deserved the win? Or did it rightfully go to Delena? Leave your honest opinions in the comments!

Watch Nina Dobrev & Ian Somerhalder’s not-at-all-awkward acceptance speech here:

Um how can Klaine fans even claim that Delena fans cheated? It’s an awards show an people vote as many times as they want to for the people they want to vote, to I don’t understand how they can claim Delena fans cheated. If you wanted Klaine to win then you should’ve voted more like Delena fans did. You can’t cheat in voting for an awards show..

      Cyn says:

The thing is that some of the delena fans created automatic twitter account so they could gather more votes. So yes, they cheated…
Not only that, bit some of them were absolutely horrible to the klaine fans going from homophobic tweets to ‘invitation’ to kiil ourselves…
If that’s the fandom who won, then you can understand why we’re disappointed.

Are you people really that upset about this? This is a pointless awards show that should not affect your life whatsoever unless you were the ones nominated. You can’t tell me that Klaine voters never once made more accounts to vote more. Everyone cheats. Get over it. Yes, people probably made homophobic remarks but the people who we’re going to vote for Klaine would have anyway with or without those remarks. Those people, are obviously not mature and haven’t evolved yet. Move on and stop making such a big deal out of little things.

Delena fans were smart to cheat. I guess Klaine fans should have done the same. Even tho both fandoms have rude people in them, the Delena fandom was disgusting with their rampant homophobic remarks and bullying–theres screencaps so dont even bother denying it–regardless if it was a joke or not. Klaine trended on twitter even though they didnt get the award, just goes to show how popular and loved they are. Klaine doesnt need a fan voted award to be remembered, theyve already made TV history with their lgbtq representation and will continue to do so. Meanwhile the only people who will care about another vampire couple (Delena) is just their fans.

I absolutely adore Klaine AND Delena, but the award was for Chemistry, and I’m pretty sure Delena is the definition of sexual chemistry! It’s been brewing for seasons now and has finally blossomed into a relationship that all the followers have been dying to see! Okay, fair enough some assholes out there tried to make the win homophobic, but I’m telling you now that is not the general opinion of most fans (coming from an avid TVD’er and Gleek) ! These bots that you speak of, if they’ve happened in this voting process, no doubt they’ve popped up in other “choice” style awards show, would PCA not do everything in their power to prevent excessive amount of voting? There’s always going to be hate out there, that’s just the way the world is unfortunately but there’s no need to dwell so much on it! Look at how successful Glee and all of the cast are! They’ve made such a difference in so many aspects of today’s society, ignore the ignorance and they should take it in their stride! And look there’s always next year ;)

well maybe the klaine fans should have voted more! it doesnt matter about being gay or not gay its about who votes! and the TVD fans obviously voted more

Or maybe Delena fans shouldn’t create bot voters. Just saying. This can’t be denies either, there is so much proof

Okay, I’m just going to put this here because I’m disgusted at these tweets from Klaine fans. And yes, I am a Delena fan and did vote for Delena. But don’t start giving me shit just because of that, just read.
Yes, I understand that Delena have given offensive tweets to Klaine and I certainly do NOT support that at all, however Klaine fans must understand they are a minority. The majority of Delena fans do not support those sort of offensive tweets, it’s sickening.
And now onto the Klaine tweets I’ve seen on here, I hate how most have jumped straight to the “homophobic tag” just because Delena is a guy/girl. That is not the case. Some people love the Vamprie Diaries, some love Glee. Some prefer one couple over the other, why does homophobia have to be brought into this? It’s not the case and whilst you have lost respect for Delena fans through the numerous “homophobic twats” comments, I have lost respect for Klaine over these idiots who sent these tweets on this page.
I’ve watched Glee, I like Klaine, but I love Vampire Diaries and think Damon and Elena have fantastic relationship which I have followed for 5 seasons. And I don’t like personally being called a homophobic asshole because I voted against a guy/guy couple because I preferred the other.
And I’m seeing other “rude Delena fans, bullies, cheats” and whilst Delena fans have acted like that and they shouldn’t of done, excuse me, but I have seen the exact same behavior from Klaine fans. I saw Klaine voting accounts on twitter, I saw horrible tweets from Klaine fans.
Both fandoms cheated, both were rude, both have the minority of horrible fans who are causing this shit.
Either deserved to win. Obviously I voted Delena so I’m glad they won. But Klaine would’ve been my second choice. I’m sorry for the Delena fans who caused offense, but as I stated before, it’s a minority and please don’t judge an entire fandom because of that.
Most are just happy Delena won, no offense intended at all. Just because they love and are passionate about Delena.

Let’s be clear here while there was a lot of cheating on their side. All these awards shows are rigged and the producers or someone else picks the winners not fans.

Whilst there were certainly homophobic comments made towards Klaine from a nasty subsection of the Delena fandom, the much larger issue here is the rampant cheating which took place throughout their campaign. There were using automated votes and imacros on both twitter and facebook, which they openly bragged about and which we have clear and verifiable proof of (screencaps, links to twitter accounts). To make it worse, Klaine fans highlighted these accounts to the PCA during the voting process and were assured that they would be thrown out in the final voting tally. This clearly didn’t happen and as far as I’m concerned the PCAs are completely discredited by this fiasco.

They claim to be the one awards show for the fans, by the fans – and in their terms and conditions state that they don’t allow any kind of vote rigging. Yet they made no effort to fairly count the votes and thousands of Klaine fans who spent hours and hours of their time voting fair and square feel quite rightly incredibly disappointed. It is indeed a complete disgrace.

Here’s the thing, Delena didn’t win because of homophobia – that’s just why it’s so annoying that they did win, since lots of the fans were saying really homophobic things about Kurt and Blaine during voting. No, they won because they made over 100 bots on twitter and had them going all the time, and also used bots for voting on the website. They couldn’t beat us fairly, so they cheated, and won. THAT’S what’s bugging most of us. Why didn’t you find the cheating tweets? They were all over the place. Want a list of all the spam accounts? We have those too. They were reported, but twitter and the PCA did nothing. We have black and white evidence they cheated because there’s more of us than them, but what can we do about it? Nothing.

I guess ian somerhalders 11.000.000 Fans on FB and 5 million on Twitter, and ninas have nothing to do with it. There was no cheating, Delena is a huge couple and Ians Fans will always vote for Ian.

    Kat says:

Klainers are upset and rightfully so.
Delena didn’t win because they deserved it. They won because their fans cheated. They also insulted the characters and bullied the people who were voting for them, stepping lower and lower as days passed.

you cant cheat when it goes to voting! its because of the tvd fans that they won. the glee fans should have voted more- you could have voted 1000 times a day- you cant cheat when it comes to voting cause the vote goes to the system and gets counted and is there any proof that anybody was bullying anybody? for all we now the chris and darren could be bullying people

    Lola says:

I have watched Glee and TVD for years and there is not a single bone in my body which is homophobic. I voted for Delena, not because they are a straight couple, but because they have tonnes of chemistry and you’d be blind not too see it. Just because some DErs made some homophobic comments it doesn’t mean that the whole fandom is like that. Delena have a big fanbase (Ian has 4.5 million followers and Nina 4.3 million) and while the Klaine fandom is definitely big, the individual actors have less followers (Chris with 2.3 million and Darren with 1.6 million). Chris and Darren, outside of Glee, are not as famous as Nina and Ian, and don’t forget that Delena won E! Online’s poll of Best TV Couple Of All Time earlier this year whilst Klaine didn’t make the top 8. As you can see, claiming the fact that Delena only won because of cheaters (there were in fact some cheaters from the Klaine fandom too) and because they are a straight couple is ridiculous.

    • Teen.com
      KC says:

Yes, there were some cheaters on the Klaine side, but they weren’t anywhere near as prevalent as the Delana cheaters. In fact, at one point, there were people in the Delena fandom getting legitimate twitter accounts banned because they knew banning the account would make all of the votes made on it invalid. On top of countless bot accounts.

      Em says:

do you know how many polls klaine has won? they have beat out delena over and over (and bigger ships like destiel) on major polls. so it’s very fishy that this one time, they didn’t win. delena won because of cheating, and the fans tweeting homophobic things during the voting just makes it all the more disgusting!

  18. Teen.com
    nvogel says:

I believe Klaine should have won for more than LGBTQ but let’s begin with that.
The entire time voting was being held I watched the tweets. Quite a few were VERY homophobic and saying that they are only voting for Delena because “EW Klaine”. That there shows that they rather not see two gay men with obvious chemistry and a very important role just because like I said they’re gay.
Delena shippers also cheated on Twitter for sure and if cheating there then in other places too. There were robots used in the voting process and although the PCA’s has replied to the Klainers who brought up the bots I don’t remember seeing the problem taken care of or the Twitter accounts disbanded.
The fact that these two problems arose in the voting and not taken care of that I can recall I believe Ian and Nina should be ripped from their awards for having role-breaking, cheating voters.

    Wow says:

Not only were some of the Delena shippers rude and creating “anti-klaine” campaigns to keep us from winning saying “we can’t lose against a gay couple” but now multiple Delena shippers are tweeting Klaine fans telling them to kill themselves and they deserve this award. I dont think so!

  20. Teen.com
    CB says:

All of the Klaine supporters on here complaining about homophobia and never bothering to mention that in this same awards show a gay actor won for playing a gay character in the same ship you supposedly support. We can all see where your priorities lie, and it’s not with lgbtqia* rights.

    • Teen.com
      WHAT says:

This isnt about Chris???? What does Chris have to do with the face that Delena shippers said very rude and homophobic things about a gay couple?

    • Teen.com
      KC says:

Chris had nothing to do with the problem at large? Don’t start with that “Klainers hate Chris” thing, because it isn’t true. I was very happy Chris won. That has absolutely nothing to do with my anger over the Chemistry category. My issue with the chemistry category is that the Delena shippers got legitimate twitter accounts banned purely because they knew it would invalidate the votes made on the account. As well as using things like “Can’t let the fags win!” as campaign slogans. This is not okay no matter how you slice it.

  21. Teen.com
    ITSJUSTTHEPCAS says:

Tbh, since we’re talking about chemistry, Nina and Ian have better chemistry than Chris and Darren. Isn’t that the point of this category?

    • Teen.com
      Ali says:

Did you know that chemistry is subjective? Because it is.

    • Teen.com
      Luna says:

They don’t but their characters sure do and that’s what this was about not the actors chemistry cause a good actor can fake that excellently
