Sad news for The Hunger Games fandom — Philip Seymour Hoffman, aka Plutarch Heavensbee — has passed away. The Oscar winning actor was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in his Manhattan apartment on Sunday February 2. He was 46. His family released a statement reading:
“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
The news obviously came as a shock, and his Hunger Games co-stars — and fans alike — took to Twitter to share their condolences.
PSH – I am genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless. A truly wonderful man, with a magical touch. My hero. Thoughts are with his family.

Apparently, Philip only had seven days left in his filming schedule, but Lionsgate has assured his death will not delay the movie. They also released a statement that reads:
“Philip Seymour Hoffman was a singular talent and one of the most gifted actors of our generation. We’re very fortunate that he graced our Hunger Games family. Losing him in his prime is a tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Philip’s family.”
UPDATE: Jennifer Lawrence, Francis Lawrence, Suzanne Collins and more issued the following statement: “Words cannot convey the devastating loss we are all feeling right now. Philip was a wonderful person and an exceptional talent, and our hearts are breaking. Our deepest thoughts and condolences go out to his family.”
