8 of the Absolute Worst TV Shows Based Off of Movies

by: on | in TV | 2 Comments

In case you haven’t heard the news, Bad Teacher, Scream AND Ghost are all being translated from movies to television shows. Starting on April 24, Bad Teacher (sans Cameron Diaz) will air on CBS; Scream is tapped for this summer on MTV (because only MTV would do such a thing); and, last we heard, Paramount was working on a Ghost pilot.

So far, we haven’t been able to form opinions on any of the above because, obviously, we haven’t seen any footage. However, we have been able to form opinions on already-released TV series based off of movies. Teen Wolf is clearly the best thing ever, Parenthood is decent and, of course, Friday Night Lights was the shiz. These titles, though, should’ve just stuck to the big screen:

10 Things I Hate About You

DURATION: 20 episodes

Lindsey Shaw is great and all, and so is Meaghan Martin, but as the Stratford sisters... Not so much.

Blade: The Series

DURATION: 12 episodes

With three successful movies, starring Wesley Snipes, we guess the creators figured the TV show would be an instant success. This clearly proved to be untrue.

On the plus side, we did get to see future Teen Wolf bad-ass Jill Wagner kick some major butt.

Napoleon Dynamite

DURATION: 6 episodes

8 years after the flick starring Jon Heder was released, FOX made an attempt at an animated series. One question: WHY??

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

DURATION: 3 seasons

The show itself wasn't terrible, but the idea that a father could put his family into so many dangerous situations without law enforcement intervening is a little too ridiculous to handle.

Clueless

DURATION: 3 seasons

Again, the show wasn't terrible — it did last three seasons after all — but it failed to capture the fun of the film. Could be because Alicia Silverstone wasn't attached to the project, or could be the series' over-abundance of ditziness. Who knows?

Ferris Bueller

DURATION: 13 episodes

Well, at least we got to see young Jennifer Aniston.

Dumb and Dumber

DURATION: 13 episodes

The cartoon based off the Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels-led movie felt way too rushed. This is what happens when you try to create a television series only months after the film's release.

My Big Fat Greek Life

DURATION: 7 episodes

SEVEN episodes. Embarrassing.
