12 Ways Toy Story Was the Worst Thing You Could’ve Watched as a Kid

“You are a toy!” Seriously, even though this film is all about toys (and we love it) there are some horrible life lessons from these toys that you might have missed while watching the original Toy Story. Yes, Toy Story gave us some of the greatest one-liners and animated characters of all time, but it’s not without its faults. The story that eventually leads to Woody and Buzz becoming BFFs isn’t always so happy or full of great life choices.

If you thought Finding Nemo taught you bad lessons, Toy Story is way worse. Woody decides to push Buzz out the window (kind of on accident), which leads to him getting Buzz strapped to a rocket! If that’s not poor life choices we don’t know what is. See which bad lessons you might have missed from the Pixar film below.

1. New things are definitely better than old things. Come on, Buzz should not be better because he is newer. Woody is still in great condition and Andy loves him, so he shouldn’t just toss him to the side. Loyalty should count for something.

2. Calling people names is funny. Yes we love Hamm and Mr. Potato Head’s banter as much as you do, but they are actually pretty mean to the other toys. It’s really uncool.

3. You can only have one best friend. This so completely untrue. Despite what Woody thinks and how Andy makes him feel at times, you can have more than one BFF.

4. Being jealous is healthy. If you learn nothing else from this post learn this… being jealous gets you nowhere. Take it from Woody and Buzz’s relationship, when they are jealous of one another they are miserable, but when they work as a team they have success. It’s pretty simple.

5. Playing with explosives is safe. Ya, this isn’t even a little bit true. Word to the wise, don’t play with matches and never try and blow up things in your backyard. Trust us, just don’t do it!

6. If you don’t believe in yourself no one else will. Poor Buzz gets really down on himself when he discovers he can’t fly, but all he needed to do was believe. Luckily, Woody ends up coming to his rescue and saves the day. In reality you should be confident in yourself so others have more reason to believe in you and your strengths.

7. Being mean to your sister is okay. Sid is the absolute worst, yet when he is mean to his sister he rarely gets punished. It makes no sense.

8. Wandering alone at an arcade is safe and normal. Pizza Planet might be super cool, but it really isn’t safe to wander away from your parents like SO many of the little kids do.

9. Leaving friends behind is acceptable. Never leave a man behind! Never.

10. If you’re not number one, people will forget about you. This is so NOT the case. Despite what Woody thinks about his proper place in the room hierarchy, if you aren’t always the top dog it doesn’t mean people will forget about you all together. It’s actually healthy when you learn how to be number two.

11. Being a bully is a positive. Wrong! Sid is the ultimate villain, which is good in the movie, but in real life being a bully isn’t good at all. People will eventually turn on you (like the toys did) and you will be all alone, so don’t hurt others.

12. Lunch-boxes are good presents. Okay, so even all of Andy’s toys know this is a big no-no at a kids party, but we just had to point out so no one gets confused. Toys are great gifts, lunch-boxes… not so much.
